X-Watch Concept

X-Watch Concept

I’m not sure why designers prefer time and time again to come up with a watch concept. I think watches were making powerful style statements in the 70’s and 80’s, but now we got iPhones and other portable devices. Still, a cool and innovative timepiece design could be saying more about your personality. Just like this interesting concept right here.

A nifty X-Watch which happens to go perfectly with my X-Files mania. This watch was designed by Damian Kozlik who attempted at a universal time piece, able to be used by the blind, as well as the sighted. The concept is integrating LEDS timepiece, and the case and straps can be made of rubber. The outer dial is compounded entirely by LEDs, thile the mechanism of the watch is placed under them.

So, how exactly are blind people able to read this watch? They have to move a finger along the graduated watch glass, where there are extruded Braille numbers. When a person touches the highlighted panel, a specific sound is produced.

The designer explains that each LED panel can work in two different ways:

- Every panel works like capacitance touch switch. It needs only one electrode to function. The electrode can be placed behind a panel. It works using body capacitance. When a person touches it, it increases the capacitance and triggers the sound.

- Every panel works like resistance touch switch. This solution needs metal units to function. There are two thin pieces of metal on each panel. It works by lowering the resistance between them. It is much simpler in construction compared to the first solution. Placing a finger across the metal units achieves a turn on the sound. Removing the finger from the metal pieces turns the sound off.
