Vlingo: “Talk to Your Phone”
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in News

Vlingo Corp. introduced a beta version of its speech recognition software for mobile phones.
The technology used is called Hierarchical Language Model that gives the ability to learn from words to even accents by compiling the data received from users.
The person using the phone with speech recognition feature will be able to send messages by dictating the phone what to write.
Also it is possible to find different things by just asking the phone using a simple question and it will figure out the meaning.
If the software understands wrong what the user said, it offers suggestions and the person can scroll down for choosing the right one, without the need for repeating the query over and over.
According to Dave Grannan, former general at Nokia Corp. and actual CEO at Vlingo, "Users can say anything they want. If you're going to use your voice, it cannot be the traditional, we only allow you to use a certain number of words. People are going to search for anything on the Internet."
After Vilingo FIND, the demo version of the software, will stop being available in November, the beta software will be provided first to mobile phones with advanced features like browsing capabilities.
The demo version is available for download on the official Vliongo website, for the following carriers: Alltel Wireless, AT&T, Boost Mobile, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
