Universal Flash Storage Standard in Development Phase
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in News

A new flash memory standard is prepared to be used in mobile phones and digital cameras, developed by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (formerly Joint Electron Device Engineering Council).

The standard is called Universal Flash Storage and the project is sustained by the top mobile phone companies.
Among the benefits of this innovation we have to mention the driving of the data transfer speeds and memory storage capacity up to embedded memory and memory cards. The result will be more songs, videos and pictures on user’s phones.
The Universal Flash Storage standard will shorten the time needed to access information on mobile devices.
Companies like Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, STMicroelectronics, Micron Technology, Spansion and Texas Instruments are all supporting the standard expecting its finalization until 2009.
