Recently, Toshiba presented to the public two new laptops aimed at the gamer enthusiast, these being X205-SLi1 and X205-SLi3, both coming from the Satellite line of notebooks, with a lot of new features dedicated to mobility and improved connectivity.
The notebooks have configurations based on the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU class, the SLi1 having the 2GHz T7250 version, while the SLi3 has the 2.2GHz T7500 processor. Both units have each 2GB of RAM memory expandable up to 4GB. The video processing power capability is equal as both machines have Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics processing units, with 512MB dedicated video memory each. I am sure you can guess already, that each machine can run Windows Vista and are Windows Vista Premium capable, so obviously gamers will be pleased to find out they can enjoy the latest gaming titles that require DirectX 10 and Vista.
In terms of storage, the notebooks come loaded with 2 SATA hard drives each, the SLi1 having 240GB and the SLi3 with 320GB as capacity. Each screen is 17’ wide, in order to be optimized for watching DVDs. The SLi one has a max resolution of 1440x900, while the SLi3 reaches 1680x1050. Besides the higher frequency CPU and the additional storage capacity, the SLi3 comes with an external HDTV USB Tuner, that can be used to watch high definition TV broadcasts, but not in a really true-HD mode (1980x1080). The laptops come with built-in speakers and a subwoofer (each) that are meant to enhance the audio experience.
Since connectivity has been mentioned as well, the SLi1 and SLi3 come with embedded Wi-FI network capabilities, and with the Bluetooth in the 2.0+EDR version. While an other notebook maker has started this fashion, Toshiba has added as well a webcam, microphone and a fingerprint reader to the machines. Both notebooks, Satellite X205-SLi1 and X205-SLi3 are available for purchase in USA for $2000 and $2500 respectively.
