Thermochromic

Shi Yuan wanted to create something unusual based on heat sensitivity technology and amaze the user, giving the impression of being “ free from the laws of nature”.

Thermochromic

The thing he wanted to embed this technology in is a wallpaper like the black one in the picture, which displays a flower in 3 phases. When the heat temperature reaches specific limit the flower starts to bloom.

Thermochromic

This heat is detected from either sunlight or your hands.

Thermochromic

To have effect, the material used is Thermochromic ink, like those funny coffee cans that reveal hidden messages after holding it in your hand for a while, or keep a hot tea in it. Another example is the mood ring that changes color depending on your finger’s heat level. It can become blue, black, green, orange or red.

Thermochromic

Thermochromic inks use liquid crystals like the ones encountered in the mood rings, and leuco dyes used in flat thermometers, battery testers, clothing, and the indicator on bottles of maple syrup.

I just realized that some have an obsession with this "photoshopped" idea.

The funny thing is that schaefle doesnt get that its a concept and not a finished product.... :-P

The idea btw, is simply amazing... I can think of a vast number of reeeeaaaally cool things that could be done with this!!! :)
What about facades, changing color after the temperature?
Cars changing color so they stay cool in the sun and turn darker when it gets colder.....ans so on..... Art showing up on buildings or indoors as in this example..... anyway....it really opens up many cool possibilities.....

  • Sierra said on 06/05/2008:

    I agree.
