The Wow Star Trek Home Theater

The spectacular Star Trek Home Theater you see in the pictures was created in about 6 months and includes a ready room and a bar, measuring 70 x 22 ft.
After meeting his client, Jay Miller, the president of Acoustic Innovations decided to create a design based on the future owners’ tastes.
The owners are crazy about collecting sci-fi video games.

According to Jeff Hoover, the creator of this idea and president of Audio Advisors, “It adds a lot to the experience because you are introduced to the ‘theme’ when you enter the bar and ready room area. It sets the mood that something cool, fun and exciting is about to happen next.”

The plan started to take shape back in 2002, when the company wanted to build the Starship Enterprise NCC-1701look. In time they changed their minds and managed to build the Enterprise NCC-1701A version.
There is the intergalactic bar, the theater itself and then comes the hidden closet where all main equipment is kept.
In an adjacent room are the source gear and the A/V distribution stuff, but the most important is the Kaleidescape, which is “the largest hard-drive based storage systems that I’ve ever heard of in a residential installation,” as Hoover said. Why so big? Well because it consists of 8 servers with 3,816 DVDs.

With a long and impressive equipment list it received the top theme theater award at CEDIA 2007 (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association).
Hoover described that the sci-fi theater has motion-activated air-lock doors with series sound effects, a Red Alert button on the Crestron TPMC-10 controller which allows turning all of the LEDs bright red and flashing, together with the actual sounds from Star Trek blaring.
“If you don’t know it’s coming, it scares the pants off guests,” laughs Hoover.
