Samsung Started the AMOLED Displays’ Mass Production
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in News

Samsung announced that it will start to produce the Active Matrix OLED displays (AMOLED) for cell phones and not only.

The AMOLED screen type will support a QVGA resolution of 240x320 pixels and will be capable to render 16 million colors which is an extraordinary achievement.
Some of you would ask what this display consists of.
Well, in short terms, there are two thin films made by an organic material and between the two flows electrical current.
After the release of this screen type, it will be easier for mobile developers to build smaller and smaller phones, with perfect video rendering capability.
The new Samsung phones with this type of display will feature a driver interface that will permit screen brightness self-adjusting, which will lead to a longer battery life.

The colors will appear more realistic because the built-in ROM will be separately and so the RGB gamma compensation will be enabled.
"In the future, we expect AMOLEDs will be applied to a wide range of mobile devices to deliver the high resolution they require", said Jin Tae Kim, vice president of System LSI division at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung began the mass production of the AMOLED and it is expected that the units to reach 8 million units by the end of this year and 130 million until 2011.
