Robotic dolls look just like you

I’m not sure why I got to ask myself how it would have been for me to have a twin sister at these late hours when most people (in the same meantime zone, at least) are having a good night sleep. Maybe because it’s time for me to finish my job for this day, and in my attempt to find a gadget to write about, I ran into something so very weird that makes me feel a cold shiver going down my back. I think I’ll just put an end to reading my RSS feeds right before going to sleep.

Somewhere outside the Japanese capital, Tokyo, there is a small company, which you might never have heard about (I, for one, didn’t), known under the name of Long Island, the property of Hiroaki Koike. Small company, as I said, with audacious ideas, because it is specialized in creating robotic dolls that look just like the person who wants to purchase it.

Maybe it’s a little bit hard to believe, but look at the picture above and tell the difference. There are many, if you ask me, except for the haircut of the young lady and the outfit, but hey! Who am I to judge the soulless creature?

The point is that the dolls are quite complex, as they are touch sensitive and they are able to talk and to perform various movements. They nod and wave, for example, which is pretty much for a doll, right? Or dull, as we’ve had the chance to see a couple of robots to do the same things before, if not more than that.

The robots are 40 centimeters tall (too little of you, huh?) and come equipped with a 500mHz computer and the Windows XP operating system, 80GB SSD, a webcam, speaker, touch sensors, multiple servos to help them move, a power and Ethernet cable.

As far as I’m concerned I can’t see any reason for someone to have such a doll, as long as they’re not very affected by narcissism, because if that’s the case it’s understandable in a certain extent. I don’t know, but when you decide to have another… you in the bosom of your family, you do nothing but to prove that you're a huge fan of your own person. It’s like God made a mistake when He decided to create you in one sample and one sample only and you want to mend the harm it was made.

Anyway, if you’re interested in these robotic dolls, then you should know that it takes approximately six months for the company to create it. In addition, you must be willing to give these guys significant information about yourself in order to make the dolls more realistic.

The price differs from client to client, but you can find the information you need from the English version of the company’s official website.

Another version of you?! Go for it, you guys! The more of you, the merrier us!
