Readius Rollable E-Book

Although the Internet has evolved into a generous place for electronic magazines, newspapers and other forms of written media, the traditional paper-based counterparts are still issued in large quantities.

While the paper-based stuff will clearly give its last breath soon, many trees still have to be cut in order to supply typographies with that “valuable white material.” In order to minimize the tree cutting spree, people have come with solutions such as the SMS, the e-mail, or even some sort of electronic paper. One of the latest products to integrate such special “paper” is the Readius Rollable E-Book.

This concept is not just another electronic book design like Amazon’s Kindle device. It’s also a robust cellphone with wireless functionalities. As you can see from the provided clip, Readius is more portable and has a more intuitive page navigation system.

However, the product could use some improvements. The flexible screen is only capable of displaying only grayscale content, when color newspapers have been around for decades. The foldable screen could also use a faster refresh rate for improved readability. Moreover, the variety of newspapers and magazines for this kind of device remains limited and from what I’ve heard, the price isn’t that wallet-friendly after all. But this is just the beginning and hopefully we could get rid of the need for non-recycled paper in the near future.
