Portable image viewer from Digital Foci
Posted by: Maria Mihale in Gadgets

If you ever had the chance to see a photographer in action, you probably know how important it is for them to see the results of their work just when the shooting takes place. And the screen provided by their DSLRs is often not enough for their needs.
This is why the Photo Book from Digital Foci is perfect for photographers, but not only for them. It can also be used by casual photo takers, just like me and you. This portable image viewer is provided with an 8 inch LCD color display that comes with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. A great thing about it consists of the internal memory which has 4GB.

But the main advantage of the Photo Book is yet to come: the fact that it supports the RAW image format. Photographers are undoubtedly more familiar with it than regular digital camera owners. So for the non-connoisseur people out there, here you have a definition from Wikipedia: “A raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of either a digital camera, image or motion picture film scanner. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be used with a bitmap graphics editor or printed. […] In fact there are dozens if not hundreds of raw image formats in use by different models of digital equipment (like cameras and film scanners)â€. As many photographers use this image formats, it’s perfectly understandable the reason why this portable image viewer features a RAW support.
In addition, the Photo Book supports a great number of memory cards, including CF, SD/HC, MMC, xD and MS/MSPro. There’s a USB 2.0 connection that helps you transfer photos from your camera to your computer and inversely. Not to mention that it also supports video playback in formats such as MJPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 SP.
The Photo Book is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium polymer battery that provides a life of up to 2.5 hours. The package includes a soft leather-like case, the AC power adapter, USB cable to computer, USB adapter to USB flash drive and a Quick Start Guide. The suggested retail price is of $189. As far as the availability is concerned, the Photo Book is expected to start selling in May 2009 at DigitalFoci or very well-known retailers like Amazon or Adorama.
