Plasma Arc and Plant Speakers

Well now, nice 1KW speakers you got there. Noisy stuff, no doubt. But did you know that you don’t really need speakers as tall as you to actually hear some quality sounds? That’s right, you could use plasma arcs, or even better, a plant in your house!

OK, some of you tech geeks may already know that plasma speakers have been around since the 1950s, but that doesn't mean they are the stuff of the past. On the contrary, they still louk astounding, at least when you get to see the plasma arc in all its glory. Like a standard speaker, plasma speakers work by creating compression waves in the air. However, unlike a standard speaker that uses magnets and paper/plastic/ titanium foils and all those exotic materials to drive these compressions, plasma speakers are using the plasmatic energy arc.

Here are some interesting facts. Using a plasma arc setup, the pitch is altered by the constantly shifting intensity of the arc and a typical setup can easily deal with a frequency response of 200Hz to 12KHz, while the speaker runs at 50W.

If this doesn’t really impress you, check out the plant speaker. Hey, my plant can sing! Unfortunately, this procedure kills the plant in quite a short time.
