Pennsylvania Student Caught Using Firefox gets Detention

That is a report written last week by Big Spring High School from Newville, Pennsylvania, regarding an “incident” that happened during a course.

Pennsylvania Student Caught Using Firefox gets Detention

A student was caught browsing Mozilla Firefox and because the teacher was a very technical person, decided to forward this to the school’s principal.
The student was given a two-hour detention for that.

After the incident, the school’s principal has published a letter on the school’s website to specify that the first report had been altered.

Well, we can’t be sure of who’s lying or telling the truth here but I have to recognize that all this is kinda awkward. Isn’t it?

We can get suspended at my school if we install Firefox. I mean, it's strictly written in the 'computer use agreement' things we have to sign. You know, saying we won't look at porn etc. at school.

Really!! So it's true... And no one takes attitude?

I have to call shenanigans on this. Form letters are very easy to alter, and I find it hard to believe that a form letter like this would contain the error "for the next time detention held".

Plus, the teacher had to be able to see the browser window and realize it was displaying content related to the coursework. This is assuming the student was not goofing off, and that the course material does not specifically require IE (even some ISPs only work with IE for the service activation process).

Finally, I find it hard to believe that any teacher able to look up and determine that the executable was named "firefox.exe", cannot recognize a web browser.

It says "foxfire.exe", not "firefox.exe", meaning that either the teacher(s) of this subject at this persons school is not just illiterate, they're too stupid to copy a program's name properly.

Either way, if this is fake or not, this kind of crap does happen because of illiterate morons that look at someone using something different and scream "WTFHAX!?", which I've seen happen in person numerous times.
