Optimus Maximus Keyboard
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in Gadgets

This amazing keyboard is made by the Art Lebedev design studio and it’s created to change your point of view about keyboards.
We took a brief look at it last year but now it is finally available for buying at ThinkGeek.com.
The Optimus Maximus Keyboard has 113 keys, each featuring a tiny OLED screen on which you can watc
h animated GIFs or QuickTime movies. Quite interesting isn’t it? Let’s say that’s just the beginning.

Each key can also perform different tasks like opening an application or running an Apple script (only for Mac) and by having various system monitors build-in they are able to dynamically display on different keys CPU temperature, Network Speed etc.
Want to use this keyboard for Japanese language? No problem, just choose the appropriate key images for Hiragana and start typing. The same for Cyrillic, Ancient Greek and others. It displays also without a mistake notes, special symbols, math functions, in a word: everything.

Another cool thing is you can choose any image you want to appear on the specified button, so you’ll never get bored with this wonderful piece of technology. Beside other feature I would remind also the built in USB hub and the SD card slot for keeping keyboard settings.
Keyboard dimensions are 537mm x 173mm x 38mm with a key measuring 20.2 x 20.2 mm. The display resolution for each of the 113 OLED screens is 48 x 48 pixels / key with a frame rate of 10 FPS and a color depth of 65.536 colors.
What could this keyboard have more beside, of course, system requirements! You must have a regular PC that runs on Windows XP or Windows Vista with USB 1.1 or 2.0, at least 20 MB of free space on hard drive and at least 256 MB of RAM.
When you pay $1,589.99 for a keyboard like this, system requirements shouldn’t be a problem for buyer I think.
Check this video with Optimus Maximus in action and tell us what you think before going at ThinkGeek.com.
