Olympus mju/Stylus 1050 SW Rugged Digital Waterproof Camera

Olympus mju/Stylus 1050 SW Rugged Digital Waterproof Camera

Maybe you’ve seen this digital waterproof camera in electronics stores at the special stands dedicated to product testing. There are a few versions available, slightly different than each other, but the one we’ll take a closer look at now is Olympus µ 1050 SW in gold.

The digital camera model was released in August as the best solution for taking pictures in any season. The images suggest that it is incredibly tough, being designed with some of the strongest materials in a highly resistant compact construction, to be waterproof, shock-proof, and to stand the lowest temperatures. Let’s say it’s the perfect mobile companion when it comes to shooting the surroundings in any period of the year.
We haven’t tested it yet, but the specifications are very interesting, so we’re wondering if the pictures reveal the same level of perfectness as the design.

Olympus mju 1050 SW digital waterproof camera has a TAP control interface, a large 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD display with great viewability in sunlight, and can be dropped from up to 1.5 meters, dived up to 3 meters in the water, or kept in temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. These strong features don’t seem to affect the overall stylish design of the camera, and the Champagne Gold color introduced last month, makes it one of the coolest compact cameras of 10 megapixels.

Essential features include 3x optical zoom, Digital Image Stabilization, Advanced Face Detection for recognizing up to 16 faces, Shadow Adjustment Technology, BrightCapture Technology for clear display in low light conditions, the TruePic III image processor with noise reduction and realistic color reproduction, microSD Card slot, video recording with sound at 30 frames per second, and Pre-Capture Movie mode.

Olympus mju/Stylus 1050 SW uses a 1 /2.33-inch CCD sensor, 5x/15x enlargement factor, 7cm closest focusing distance, ESP light metering, spot metering, 1/4 - 1/1000 s / < 4 s shutter speed, +/- 2 EV / 1/3 steps exposure compensation, 23 scene modes including portrait, Night Scene, Indoor, Fireworks, Cuisine, Behind Glass, Smile Shot, Snow and Underwater Snapshot for taking pictures up to 3 meters deep in the water. The ISO goes from 80 up to 1600, while other specifications include the popular red-eye reduction tool, white balance, sequential shooting, Panorama function supported only with an xD-Picture Card, and image editing.

In addition, the tough digital waterproof camera integrates 41.6MB memory and provides USB connectivity with the computers.
It is available at prices around $350.
