Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac from Symantec is the version for Mac OS X 10.5 aka Leopard, redesigned and for better performance.
The signature-based protection layer is in charge with blocking malware and viruses that come from some downloaded images, music and software. According to Symantec, 78% of the exploits represent such attacks.
Symantec built the program in such a way that it has less impact on system’s startup time and performs the background updates faster, without affecting your work.
The company has also good news for the advanced users that can use their own scripts when accessing the antivirus software, because now they can do it via the command line interface in the Terminal program brought by the Mac OS X.
Mike Romo, a product manager for the Mac team at Symantec, declared that the security program is very useful by preventing the retransmission of Windows exploits that can get e-mail blocked or quarantined.
He also said that in the future Mac users will run multiple operating systems with the use of Apple's Boot Camp and virtualization software from Parallels and VMware, and so the new software would be very helpful is such situation.
