Then it really would be a brick (at least in terms of size and weight. I guess you haven't seen the batteries used to power alarm systems (7Ah ie 7000 mAh) they are quite literally the size of a brick. now cut that in half and that is the size battery you are asking for... Yea, my N95 is hefty enough, thank you very much.

  • Sierra said on 03/17/2008:

I can assure you that Nokia N96 is not available anywhere yet.
As soon as it will be released on the market we will write about that.
Also, there are a few online stores advertising this phone model with the possibility to pre-order it, but these are not trustful sources.
We'll just have to wait a little, it's not a long time. :)

Is Nokia planning to incorporate touch screen functionality to future release of N96. If they do N96 touch screen edition can better compete with IPhone isnt it more exciting?

  • Sierra said on 03/28/2008:

The N96 doesn't have touchscreen but as we all are expecting some N model with touch-sensitive interface Nokia will probably think about it. They have to be always in technology trends.
If you want to see how a Nokia N with touchscreen might look like go here: http://www.cameraphonesplaza.com/nokia-n98-concept ,but remember, that is just an idea and is not conceived by Nokia.

n is it with or without a contract

  • Sierra said on 03/30/2008:

It is without a contract or agreement, and it's the starting price, not street price.

  • kausik said on 03/30/2008:

Thanks Sierra but what currency is $750?

  • Sierra said on 03/30/2008:

    US Dollars

  • kausik said on 03/30/2008:

what do u mean by a starting price and not a street price?

  • Sierra said on 03/30/2008:

The so called starting price is the Nokia recommended retail price, but the retailers usually sell the product at a lower price.
So if the suggested retail price is of $750, you will find Nokia N96 in stores at a lower price, probably around $500 or something.

WHEN WILL N96 BE AVAILABLE IN INDIA

  • Sierra said on 05/03/2008:

We believe it will be available worldwide starting this summer but I'll tell you as soon as Nokia will publish some news regarding this.
At the moment there are some online stores that offer pre-ordering possibility for the N96 at around $1,500 which sounds too expensive.

N96 has live TV and double internal flash memory. N95 8GB costs $842.14, while the N96's price can't be sure yet, but it is supposed to be of around $750.

  • Sierra said on 07/25/2008:

It's the starting price; in stores it should become more expensive. Some online stores displayed a price of $1,200 for this upcoming model but no one can be sure of the real price at this point. We should all wait a few weeks and see what happens. I, personally, am very anxious to find our more from Nokia.
My advise is to think of what will you use the smartphone for. If you want to watch live TV on it's screen, during travel, then you should go for the N96.
Here are the full specification lists for Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N96. Open both windows in the same browser and compare their features carefully.

Correct me if i am wrong (editor), its true that Nokia have a lot of mobile product that manufactured or assembled in Finland (Nokia Main) but as far as my knowledge is concern about mobile producing, the Nokia have their own Factory/Warehouse in mainland China because almost Nokia Mobile Product selling in Asia Countries were made in China. In the long run, it doesn't mean that if a mobile phone product that made in China is not durable or the same as made in Finland. They have the same quality and duly authorized by Nokia Company. I am sure the release or selling date of Nokia N96 mobile will be in this month of August here in the Philippines and nearby countries in Asia. Just like the N78, it was published earlier in Europe but after 1 month it was arrived and sale in Asian Market last month so there is a possibility that N96 will be in Nokia Store by this August or 1st week of September.
So folks and fellas just keep on waiting about this good mobile(N96) you can have this as soon as possible in a low and affordable price. More power to Nokia Fans.

  • Sierra said on 08/03/2008:

You are 100% right, Alex. Phones made in China are exactly the same as those made in Finland. The factory would be closed if people don't do their job there. They all have strict rules imposed by Nokia.

  • alex ramezees said on 08/03/2008:

a lot of people goes crazy about iphone, they waited outside Apple Store in USA, they made their own video to show the world that they owned this apple mobile, well everybody has their own taste when it comes to mobile phone specially if the manufacturer speaks a lot of new features they made about their product. But in fairness to iphone, one thing i don't want to have this mobile is the network locking, you can have it in a very affordable price but in the other hand it seems those people who purchased iphone were already cheated in a sense that you can only use this gadget inside their network premises AT&T.Locking is their best weapon to secured their product not to use by other network. So why do i buy this gadget which is non-optional activate. I prefer to choose N96 because i think and i surely would that this mobile can give me some option to choose a network that i want to use in my mobile phone. I can replace the battery if it is not sustain the power to operate the gadget. a 5 mega pixel camera, TV entertainment, 16gigabytes plus micro SD and 3D speakers can give you much satisfaction. iphone vs N96 = Nseries N96

  • alex ramezees said on 08/03/2008:

Believe me not Sierra, here in our country (Philippines) in every 100 cellphone users 90 of them used Nokia Mobile phone, we already tested the durability of Nokia Products, we found out that even the yougest one a kid i should say can operate or use simply Nokia because it is very friendly use. You can easily browse it, the instruction is very basic and also easy to buy spare parts. Please can you do me a favor? Can you publish here in you column the price (approximate) of N96. Thanks a ot my friend. More power to your column. God bless you.

  • Sierra said on 08/03/2008:

Hmm, from what I've seen, those who choose the iPhone want something cool and to follow the latest fashion trends. The iPhone has some technologies not encountered at Nokia N96, but the latter is a more professional handset. You could do some work retouches on it on the go, and as I've heard, Apple wants to release a new version of the iPhone with a QWERTY keypad for bsuiness professionals, probably a sliding one, because the multi-touch display doesn't seem to be as good as a keypad when you need to type a lot.

  • Sierra said on 08/03/2008:

Indeed, Nokia phones' user interface is considered to be the easiest to use by anyone, and i agree...
When it will be in stores we'll tell you all the real price, but if you want to hear the latest rumors than i can say it is said to be ready for $850.

    Product Overview

Today from its headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, Samsung launched its new flagship smartphone, the SGH-i900 Omnia. The i900 Omnia runs atop of version 6.1 of Microsoft's Windows Mobile Professional operating system, and is intended for the Asian and European markets. It supports quad-band GSM/EDGE as well as 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA (7.2Mbps) network connectivity, with WiFi thrown in for good measure.

Highlights of the Omnia include a large, 3.2" WQVGA (240x400 pixel) touchscreen display with stylus support. The display supports auto-rotation for apps and there is a TV-out function for when 3.2" just isn't large enough. The i900 Omnia supports many different music and video formats, including Ogg Vorbis music and DivX and Xvid video. An FM radio is also included in case you forget to load up the i900's 8GB or 16GB of internal storage with your favorite music, and you don't have a microSDHC card lying around. Music can be enjoyed with wired or Bluetooth wireless headsets, thanks to the i900's A2DP stereo Bluetooth capability.

The Omnia also sports a high-spec camera, as well. The camera uses a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor with an autofocus lens and has such high end features as face and smile detection, image stabilization, wide dynamic range mode, and an automatic panoramic mode. A built-in GPS module with nav and geotagging capabilities is also on-board.

The SGH-i900 Omnia uses Samsung's TouchWiz user interface extensions on top of Windows Mobile. This means that users are free to navigate with taps, sweeps, or drags and drops as well as use the built-in optical mouse controller. Text input is handled by an on-screen virtual QWERTY keyboard

hey! what happen to Nokia"s previous announcement that the release of their new mobile product during their presentation in World Mobile Congress at Barcelona will be in 3rd quarter of this year, August is fast fading away its day. Did they found a little bit troubles about this phone?(N96). They are out of punctuality. It's just an opinion. I'm still waiting the reality.

  • Sierra Monica B. said on 08/11/2008:

Third quarter includes July, August and September. We should give them time till October.

  • roran said on 08/12/2008:

iv heard that the n96 does not have the 3d accelerometer like the n95 ...would this this truely(greatly) affect the graphics and perfomance of the phone????

  • Sierra Monica B. said on 08/13/2008:

The accelerometer sensor is that auto-rotate feature so you to turn the phone sideways and enter the landscape mode.

  • hunter4 said on 08/13/2008:

wait..!..hold up...is it just not the landscape thing that happens when u slide the music menu on the top of the phone??..it happens in the n95..so is it not going to happen in the n96??

  • Sierra Monica B. said on 08/13/2008:

It has that feature. As you can see in these pictures, it is turned sideways, that's the landscape mode, and it works with the accelerometer sensor.

  • roran said on 08/14/2008:

Instead of buying one them i choose to wait N96 to compare which the both o 3 updated mobile is the best. I also considered Ericsson Xperia to the tray. But my top of the line or priority maybe is N96 by Nokia. Please give me your best news feedback about N96 market release. Thanks a lot and more power to your blog column.

  • alex ramezees said on 09/25/2008:

i got 1, i bought it last sept 20 by means of pre-order 37thousand pesos philippine currency equivalent of 535 euro. When i get started about n96, its look like an upgraded N95. No big deal about this phone, i always charging it daily. You cannot play music in a whole day because the battery charged goes low. Not a friendly key for SMS texting. It is always hanging everytime i used video. GPS maps need to downloads which is needing a large space in your 16g flash memory. You cannot play quality TV shows.Vey aannoying. ENGAGE games were play in trial. Poor network reception. Slow SMS sending. Slow internet browsing. I was so regret upon having or owed this n96 phone. A big mistake from my side.

  • alex ramezees said on 09/25/2008:

Samsung SGH i900 Omnia is better than N96. Believe me guys. If you want an all for one phone, i recommend omnia for your own good. Big difference between this 2 latest phone. Buy omnia.

  • Sierra Monica B. said on 09/25/2008:

    OMG! That bad?

  • heather said on 09/25/2008:

dammmm!>...and i waited all this long for this...u said its like the upgraded version of n95....so isnt that meant to be good.i mean the n95 is a legend..!>..

  • alex ramezees said on 09/25/2008:

yeah! really bad experience, wrong choice by me. If you are planning to buy this phone, just think twice....if you are not convinced about my observation and comments, try to ask on web to those people who already bought n96. For me, i am just expressing my bad experienced in using this mobile phone (n96). It's up to you fellas if you are going to believe me or not. This is only my observation and self-experience as one of N96 owner. By following next next i will post another comments in this blog column. Thanks Sierra.

  • heather said on 09/25/2008:

but i did check on people who bought the phone..they said its amazing for music lovers. and many gave it a good review...arrgh..i so hate this i cant imagine my dream phone turning out to be a piece of shit.!

  • alex ramezees said on 09/25/2008:

Yesterday my cousin bought Samsung omnia, he's so proud upon having this phone, i feel envy with him because he can use his omnia at his best choice. Samsung got hit the best mobile product at this time, probably they got ahead and beaten iphone as far as new phone features is concern. They made a phone that can people stick to buy. HTC Touch Diamond HD followed 2nd to omnia & the third is Ericsson Xperia. I saw and used this phone respecttively. I have only little comments about xperia and HTC HD but not big bad comments like nokia.

  • heather said on 09/25/2008:

hasn't nokia have any comments on this piece of shit they made us wait for the whole year.!????

  • Sierra Monica B. said on 09/25/2008:

...not as many as iPhone 3G problems but who knows...

  • alex ramezees said on 09/25/2008:

as i said, N96 seems like a slighted upgrade version of N95, if you have already N95, its just like you had n96 too. n91 had a better quality sound than n96, in my n91 phone once i plug in my extended speaker 300W that used also to my mac book, it gave me a nice and quality 3D sound but in my n96 never. if you you push the volume in max limit you cannot expect a loud sound that n91 have specially if you turn it in loud speaker. old version of nseries can totally beat n96 when it comes to sound high volume option. The most annoying about n96 was the often hanging when you are switching to another application next to another application. Poor battery charge, DVB-H, music player sound, SMS (uncomportable keypad OMG) tsk! tsk! tsk. iphone & N96 flocked together. Sucks. Dumb.

  • alex ramezees said on 10/08/2008:

But the often freezing of my N96 still going on, they did nothing about this trouble that i always encountered. I've been using 10years of Nokia products, i have my own N95 8gigs so i always compared the 2 mobile phones. My n95 never been hanging since i have it until now. Well, i'm still hoping that my n96 will run good as i expected. Thanks Heather.

You have 3 recommendations from the S60 developers, and all have free trial periods: F-Secure Mobile Security, Symantec Mobile Security and Trend Micro Mobile Security.
I'd go for the F-Secure first, try to download it again, maybe it'll work this time. You can try them all and see which one suits you best.
