NEWSMY C100 – World’s Cheapest Cell Phone
Published by Sierra Monica B., on Dec 20 2008, in the categories: mobile phones
If this gadget’s price is real, then it has just become the world’s cheapest cell phone, because until the moment we received the press release, we knew that this position is occupied by the famous $5 Hop1800 prepaid prepaid disposable phones available in the United States.
This pink model here is available at Lightinthebox and costs ONLY $0.99. Yes, I’m impressed, especially after reading that it can be purchased starting from one unit on this wholesales website.

The phone seems t be designed for children, girls, and is called the NEWSMY C100 GSM 900/1800 1.5inch Child Style Cell Phones Pink (SZR505). It works on the GSM 900/1800 MHz frequency bands and comes with the interface in English and Chinese, so we can assume it is made in China.
It then sports a 1.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 176 x 132 pixels and 65K colors, and stores up to 100 phonebook entries, in addition to featuring 75 hours of talk time, 180 minutes in standby mode, incoming call firewall, Parents Control Mode, Currency Converter, Scheduler, World Time, Handsfree, Alarm Clock, Calculator, Stop Watch, Call Waiting, Caller ID, ringtones and others.
This small pink phone from Newsmy measures 102 x 46 x 12 mm and weighs 48 grams.
"We are very excited to have this opportunity to let more global customers know about Newsmy products via LightInTheBox's online shopping platform. Newsmy has been the No.1 selling brand in digital media players and mobile phones in China for four consecutive years now. LightInTheBox unveils our products to the end users outside of China directly, which cannot be achieved easily by traditional global trading. This is very meaningful to Newsmy, a well-known Chinese brand yet a newcomer to the rest of the world. The event will bring global customers to us directly, let them feel, experience and enjoy our products," says Haicheng Yu, Director of International Business at Newsmy.

"One of our missions is to bring to the world the best Chinese products available. Newsmy is clearly amongst the best of Chinese brands, and we are very committed to playing the part in spreading this message across the globe," says Kevin Wen, Co-Founder of LightInTheBox, "We also hope the $0.99-deal of trendy Chinese MP3 players and mobile phones could bring to people a pleasant surprise for Christmas after a long year of global recession. A Merry Christmas to all of our customers!"

At 65.99 for one (according to their site) you're going to have to buy a whole heap to get the $0.99 deal.
Hate to see what the shipping does to the cost as well
