Myvu Video Goggles

Myvu Video Goggles

A couple of weeks ago I struggled to get my hands on a pair of Ray Bans, but somehow failed. For me, Ray Bans still remain pretty cool, but I might be tempted to try Myvu’s latest eye-ware, as well.

Myvu has recently released two new pairs of video goggles. One of them features amber-like frames and comes in a sleek package. This is the Crystal 701 model, running at 640 x 480 VGA resolution and promising a 22.5 degree field-of-view. Myvu claims that the improved FOV is 33% wider than previous versions, creating the perception of a 4:3 screen 2m ahead of the wearer. A Li-poly battery powers this model, allowing for about four hours of continuous playback.

Additionally, Myvu also announced the Shades 301 model, which looks more like some VR goggles. These only support a 320 x 240 QVGA resolution, while the screen appears to be 1.5m away. However, battery life is boosted to 10hrs. They also weigh 75g compared to Crystal 701’s 82g .

Each pair comes standard with Ultimate Ears Earphones, complete with three different ear-plugs. Input is facilitated through a composite video jack, compatible with NTSC and PAL formats, and you can easily adjust brightness and contrast as well as volume. The Crystal 701 and Shades 301 are available now, priced at $299.95 and $199.95 respectively.
