If I were to choose a cool mp3 player with an unique and pleasant design, one of my first choices would be the Kingston K-PEX. This player is available in the 1 GB version which costs $130 and the 2 GB version which is priced at $180. This is more than a simple mp3 player, it is a digital player and you will understand in this review why we call it like that.


With 3.7 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches in dimensions and 2.2 ounces in weight, this may not be the thinnest or the lightest mp3 player around but it does some with a nice display placed right in the middle of the player and this display measures 2 inches in diagonal, coming with a 220 x 176 pixel resolution. I love this player because it can do pretty much anything: you can use it to listen to music, you can look at pictures, you can also look at videos, you can read texts, you can listen to the radio, you can record voice and you can even play games. Well, when you see this player in a store, on a shelf, the design will not strike you as that of an mp3 player. It is looks like a portable gaming device.



Ok, so you cannot record songs which are played on the radio, but when you have all the other cool features, who really cares? On the right side of the display you are going to spot the Select, Escape plus the Play buttons while the left side is host to a four way control pad, a menu button and the power button. The beauty of this player is that every button comes with a description so you will always know exactly what each of the buttons does without any additional instructions.



On the left spine of this player you are going to see the USB port while the right spine is host to the mini SD card slot. But, in the end, performance is the most important factor because it is of no use having an mp3 player that comes with a lot of interesting features if the audio playback function turns out to be awful. This is why we are happy to inform you that buying this player is going to turn out a very good choice. Not only is audio playback great, but the TFT display of the player is going to show great picture and awesome videos as well. Battery performance is also important because it is, in the end, a portable mp3 player. If battery life is not good, why not stick to just listening to music on your laptop?

Well, we are going to bring great news at this chapter as well. Lab test have revealed a 15 hours playback performance for the Kingston K-PEX mp3 player which is more than enough to get your though some of your longest trips. Hmmm…. So it is cheap, good looking, powerful and with decent battery life… what more could we ask for?
