Livescribe Pen Now Supports Mac Computers

Livescribe, the manufacturer of Pulse Smartpen we covered in the previous article about top 10 smartest pen among the latest gadgets in technology, has just announced the support for Mac computers.

We placed the Livescribe pen on the fifth position in our top because it limits you to the special paper it comes with, meaning that when it is finished, you will need to order another package and spend more money than on a standard paper type.
The second reason would be the fact that it doesn’t send the information it records, to the computer in real-time, and this means you’d have to finish your work and then connect the pen to your computer system for data transfer.

Still, it is a unique smart pen that differentiates among the other available types, with its capability to record audio while you are writing. It would be very useful in a specific domain, like for example, if you make presentations or attend conferences. At any moment you can place the Livescribe pen on the parts of text you are interested in and it will play the sounds that were recorded at the time of writing. This way you’d be able to remember what was the group discussing at a specific time.
Livescribe’s Smartpen Pulse is available at a price of $149 for the model integrating 1GB of storage capacity, and $199 if you need larger space of up to 2GB.

The news talk about the public beta release of the native Mac desktop application called Livescribe Desktop for Mac, and about new features introduced for the pen, such as handwriting to text transcription and the free printing of dot paper notepads. The MyScript for Livescribe transcription software can be downloaded as a free 30-day trial or purchased at a price of $29.95.
The Mac software for Leopard OS 10.5 can be downloaded from the official website starting November 24. It allows you to upload notes, audio files and supports playback, as well as word search.
Livescribe Desktop for Mac version 1 will be available in quarter 1 of the next year.

“Given the current state of the economy, people want gifts that solve real problems,” said Jim Marggraff, Livescribe’s founder, chairman and CEO. “Forty-three percent of people we surveyed between the ages of 25-54 said they are looking for technology gifts that are ‘useful’ this holiday season. Pulse fills this need. It’s a useful solution for anyone tasked with gathering and organizing information – college students, professionals, or anyone who uses pen and paper.”
