Developed by Sharp and provided by Willcom, this cool ultra mobile handset has the release date set for June 2008 in Japan, and is knows as the world’s first mobile device powered by the Intel Centrino Atom processor technology, running on the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system with Service Pack 1.Willcom D4

It is a small communication computer with strong processing technology and low power consumption, delivering fast data transfer rates as it uses Japan’s widest coverage service, PHS, with built-in WLAN, and Bluetooth. Willcom’s networking adds a remote lock service and the possibility to receive emails automatically even when the device is in sleep mode.

Having a practical design it allows you to operate it in three modes, to accommodate any position for improved comfort: a view mode with the keyboard closed, an input mode with extended keyboard, and the desk mode with the 5-inch TFT LCD display tilted.
Willcom D4 shows full web pages in high resolution and features also a built-in camera for pictures.

It comes with Microsoft Office 2007 suite for document management and PowerPoint presentations.
Graphics are enhanced by the Intel Centrino Atom processor’s companion chip, Intel System Controller Hub, with built-in graphic functions, which in addition supports wireless connectivity and other components’ functionalities. Intel Centrino Atom processors, also known as Menlow, are optimized for Mobile Internet Devices and include an Intel Atom processor, a low-power companion chip i was telling you about earlier, and a wireless radio.

The Internet connectivity is provided with a contract, like to any other computer.
Via the Personal Handy-phone System (PHS)operated by Willcom in Japan, Sharp D4 gives users access to flat-rate wireless network data transmission and flat-rate voice calls, at minimum 64kbit/s speeds for Internet connection with all the applications involved such as email, browsing and image transfers.

Willcom D4 measures 188 x 84 x 25.9 mm when closed, at a weight of 460 grams, and features up to 7 hours of battery life, 1024 x 600 screen resolution with 262K color reproduction, a built-in 2MP camera, Internet Explorer browser, JavaScript, and Windows Media Player. Its speculated price is of around $1,000 with a 2-year agreement.
