IBM Blue Gene Supercomputers in TOP500
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in News

As many of you already know, Blue Gene is the name of the most powerful supercomputer line in the world.
Blue Gene supercomputers work based on IBM’s Power Architecture, and are optimized for bandwidth, scalability and of course, the ability to manage extremely large amounts of information while consuming just a fraction of the power and space consumed by the fastest systems in general.

In order to expand their research capabilities for life sciences, hydrodynamics, modeling, quantum chemistry, astronomy, molecular dynamics and space research, many industries are using these supercomputers that are by far the most energy-efficient in the world.
According to the latest TOP500 computers published in the Green500 list, IBM’s Blue Gene covers 26 of 27 spots, and the model considered the world’s fastest supercomputer is no other than Blue Gene/L at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a machine able to deliver 478 trillion calculations per second, also called teraflops.
