Harmonious PC
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in NextGen PC Design Competition

This is a personal computer concept destined for young people that use to spend a large amount of time over the Internet and chat with friends on social networking web sites.
Inspired by traditional annulus shaped Chinese jade necklace symbolizing a life full of harmony since the ancient times, the designer chose this round form and impressive colors to suggest energy, happiness and fun.

Unlike other PC concepts from the NextGen PC Design Competition, that come with more complex technologies designed for a larger market sector, Harmonious targets a more limited sector – people that like blogging, chatting on the go and meeting new people, but the main focus is probably female needs.

The fashionable portable PC has a soft metal exterior layer and also a soft interactive display screen, measuring just 8 cm in diameter.
Similar with the Flux PC, the concept I am presenting you today is capable of detecting which of your friends is in close proximity to announce you by changing its sound and pattern, displaying a few details about that person.
Flux was using the proximity sensor technology by emitting a beam of electromagnetic radiation, an electromagnetic or electrostatic field, while checking for changes in the returning signal or in the field.

On the other hand, Harmonious detection works based on frequency modulation which sends the information using carrier waves, varying the frequency, and applying the frequency-shift keying technique to send the digital data by shifting the carrier’s frequency among a set of discrete values.

So if you would have this PC you could set it to search for known people in a specific distance range, and as soon as one is recognized Harmonious pops up a bubble showing the message, with surround circularity.

In the designer’s vision, Harmonious could connect with the other similar computers around and share personalized wallpapers set for a specific list of friends.
If I have a Harmonious and you are one of my friends using this computer type too, we could have the same cool wallpaper I chose for our group.

These don’t sound too interesting but they wouldn’t bother us either, would they?
