Guess who won the 2008 CES Innovations Award
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in Gadgets

The answer for my title is the 7-Day Forecaster created by Ambient Devices, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a large company that provides easiest access to information like weather forecasts, stock market activity, and sports scores, all done dynamically, without the user input.

After receiving the prestigious award, Mark Prince, the VP of Sales and Marketing at Ambient Devices, has declared:
"We are honored to be recognized by Consumer Electronics Association. All Ambient products are designed to provide a simple and elegant solution. The CES Innovations Award validates Ambient's vision, which is to provide instant, effortless access to information."
But what does this precious forecaster do exactly?
It performs the basic functions of such a device: displays the temperature, trend, high and low temperatures expected, and shows a friendly icon with expected weather conditions.
The weather forecaster works while plugged in or with batteries, but it shows the information automatically as the Infocast signal covers 90% of the US territory.
More than that, the device has a 6x6 inches display that shows current information but also an external multi-day forecast from 150 places in US.
If the temperature is normal, it displays a red color, if it is cold it shows blue hues, and so on.

But besides these functions that have already been encountered at other high-end devices, the 7-Day Forecaster is a more compressive resource that includes details about the UV Index, wind speed/direction, and pollen and air quality alerts, all with text descriptions.
You can find it at a retail price of $199 in The Sharper Image and the Frontgate Catalog.
