Google and Yahoo Gambling Promotion Trial Set
Published by Sierra Monica B., on Dec 27 2007, in the categories: News
Google and Yahoo Internet giants are accused of making millions of dollars from illegal online gambling promotions, and the civil trial is set to start in February 2008, in California.
According to the published reports since the class-action lawsuit filed in California Superior Court in August 2004, the two companies don’t admit or contest they’ve received large payments from Internet gambling advertisers.Reed Kathrein, lead attorney in the case and partner at Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro () declared that Google and Yahoo “have been profiting from this illegal practice for more than a decade” and they think that “the agreement with the government does not go far enough".
More than that, he believes that the amounts earned by these are enormous compared with the forfeiture penalties, and this will not affect them too much in the future.
Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro’s main activity is the recognized practice in class-action and complex Litigation since 1993, and it is headquartered in Seattle, with offices in major cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.Among its successes we enumerate the $300 million dollars settlement in the DRAM memory antitrust litigation, the $340 million dollars recovery on behalf of Enron employees, and role as co-counsel on the Visa/Mastercard litigation which resulted in a $3 billion Settlement.
