GMail, Now With IMAP Support

GMail, Now With IMAP Support

A very capable BetaIt's funny to notice that GMail, one of the best free mail services in the world, in my opinion, still has that "Beta" tag on its logo type. I consider this funny because GMail has a lot of features, and I don't know what else they want to add before removing its "Beta" status. Look, today, Google added IMAP support for the millions of people using their free mail service!

"So, what's so special about IMAP?", I can imagine a lot of people asking themselves... To make a long story short, it's all about accessibility. From now on, you'll be able to check your inbox on your phone, as well as on your desktop computer or on your laptop, as before.

GMail, now on your iPhone

There's no need to tell you story about IMAP, it's enough to say that, as you can see in the screenshot above, Google already posted information on how to make GMail work on the iPhone, making it the first free email service able to work with Apple's wonder phone, as far as I can tell.

These being said, it seems that the end of this year is going to be veery interesting, because Yahoo, Hotmail and other providers of free email services should do something to keep up with Google. If they saw this IMAP move coming or not, that I can't tell, but we'll see it from the speed of response to Google's challenge.
