GlassFish version 2 to be Released

GlassFish version 2 to be ReleasedSun is to announce today the GlassFish version 2’s release, the open-source application server featuring enterprise-level capabilities for running large-scale applications.
This will be followed by the beta release of the NetBeans 6.0 IDE open-source which accommodates scripting languages.

GlassFish’s first version was dedicated for developing, while v 2 comes with capabilities like clustering, data replication, and centralized administration of server clusters, as well as improved interoperability between Web services hosted on Java and Microsoft.

Web services and enterprise resources integration is enabled in the Open ESB.

Sun said that in GlassFish version 2, the performance is significantly improved and it is based on Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5.
GlassFish served as reference implementation of Java and was integrated with NetBeans IDE, and now in NetBeans 6.0 the IDE moves further, to accommodate scripting languages, JavaScript and Ruby.
"The Ruby support is very important because it allows us to really talk to an entirely new segment of developers," said Gregg Sporar from Sun.

NetBeans 6.0’s Matisse GUI builder is supporting Swing framework and Beans Binding, first one being used for the development of desktop applications, while the latter is for modifying user interface controls to accommodate back-end data source changes.

Other improvements in 6.0 version include the code editor which was rewritten and optimized and the integration with the Subversion version control system.
