The new Pro series of Radeon HD 2900 video cards have been recently launched as AMD quietly announced them. The system requirements are the same as the ones for the XT version, but the Pro version has lower core and memory frequencies.

The first model of the series has 512MB GDDR3 and a 9-inch fansink, with 2 DVI-I to VGA adapters, an HDTV adapter, a native ATI DVI to HDMI adapter, one 9-pin VIVO adapter and a CrossFire bridge interconnect. The other card will feature 1GB of memory and the core clock frequencies might reach up to 742MHz. This move is aimed at the mainstream class as the price for the 512MB version will reach about $249 and $299 for the one with 1GB video memory.

The Radeon HD2900Pro from GeCube comes with 512MB DDR3 memory with 1024-bit memory Ring Bus, with the built in HDMI (that includes crystal clear quality video with up to 1080p resolution and 5.1 sound) and the support for Blu-ray and HD DVD playback support. The card is certified to meet the requirements for Windows Vista Premium and it comes with its own Dynamic Game Computing Technology. It supports HDR – High-Speed 128-bit (High Dynamic range) rendering and it offers physics processing support.

The latest Catalyst video driver brings among other things 24X custom filter Anti-Aliasing and plug-and play CrossFire (connecting two cards on a Crossfire Chipset enabled motherboard) support. The card will render wonderfully the new standard of HD videos and will offer display resolution up to 1900x1200 on a single DVI link or 2560x1600 o a dual DVI link. The dynamic acceleration geometry and the new tessellation technologies from the Radeon HD2900 cards help in bringing out the best visuals and the most realistic rendering of real objects or geographical areas: you can see in the “Whiteout Demo” the famous lady from Ati, Ruby, snowboarding in the mountains.
