Firefox 3 Beta 1 Released

Firefox 3 Beta 1 Released

Mozilla has released beta 1 version of Firefox 3 for testing and you can try it from here.
The beta 1 version is faster due to its major architectural changes and has fixed more than 11,000 bugs.
Even the download manager has been changed supporting now the Resume function.
One of the bad parts is it doesn’t support some plug-ins such as del.icio.us and there are also some memory problems as you will see in a second.
This is the summary of the release notes published on November 19:
Beta 1 works on the new Gecko 1.9 Web rendering platform that includes almost 2 million lines of code changes, making Firefox 3 easier o use, more secure and more personal.
At the security improvements chapter I will mention the one-click site info that lets you see identity information about a specific website just by clicking the site favicon.

The malware protection is increased and you are warned when you land on a dangerous site, while the content on pages suspected as web forgeries is no longer displayed.
Beta 1 also verifies the add-ons and plug-ins and disables automatically those insecure, and more than that, it includes an anti-virus protection and Vista parental controls.Firefox 3 Beta 1 Released for Tests
Leaving the security sector a side let’s focus now on the interface.
Firefox 3 Beta 1 has an improved interface, easier to use as I wrote before, an easier password management and the add-ons whitelist is now history because the browser lets you install extensions from third-party sites in fewer clicks.
The web pages can be zoomed using the View menu tools or via the keyboard shortcuts; the tabs are easier to locate because of the tab scrolling and tab quickmenu; and one important thing for my work is that now I can save the tabs I like when exiting the browser.
Other new features include Optimized Open in Tabs behavior, customizable Location and Search bar size, text selection improvements, Find toolbar opens with the current selection, plug-in management lets you disable individual plug-ins in the Add-on Manager, integration with Vista and Mac OS X, and many many others.
There are also many issues that have to be fixed soon and these are:

• Privacy > History > Remember visited pages to "0" has no effect (bug 366075);
• MathML does not render properly in Firefox 3 Beta 1 (bug 324857);
• Google maps sometimes prints without turn-by-turn directions (bug 399238 and bug 397428);
• Yahoo! Mail will not work; users must use Yahoo! Classic Mail (bug 398381);
• Windows Live Mail will not work; users must use Hotmail Classic Mail (bug 396259);
• Add Bookmark dialog is inaccessible to screen access technologies (bug 393398);
• Unfiled bookmarks don't show up anywhere in the Bookmarks and History organizer (bug 393547);
• The malware protection blacklist is not currently activated;
• Non-administrator Vista users are unable to launch Firefox if Vista Parental controls are enabled (bug 396509);
• A Windows Media Player (WMP) plugin is not provided with Windows Vista. As a workaround, in order to view Windows Media content, you can follow these instructions. Note that after installing you may have to get a security update and apply it before you can see the content in the browser.
• Some focus issues remain when running on OS X (bug 354768);
• In OS X Leopard (10.5) an extra "File" menu appears to the right of the help menu (bug 385966);
• Breakpad crash reporting system doesn't work on Fedora 8 (bug 392919);
• Some GTK themes fail to properly render the disabled state of check boxes and radio buttons (see bug 388131).
