Giftreez is the newest Facebook application that not only gives you a new reason to do some serious socializing and make new friends, but it also gives you the chance to grow your own beautiful Christmas tree. This application has been developed by the guys at GreenPixel and it is pretty simple to use. Choose between 6 different Christmas trees with different shapes and sizes, covered in snow or decorated with a red garland. Then you have to invite some friends from your Facebook list and this is where the fun begins.


In the “browse treez” tab, you can see all your friends’ trees and visit them one by one. You are awarded 10 points for every gift that you send to a friend and if they like it, they can send you one back. For every gift that you receive, you get another 5 points. When you click on a friend’s tree, you will be directed to a page where you can vote for that tree. Underneath their tree you can find the “send friend a gift” option. Clicking on the present figure will make a window pop up and there you can choose between different decorations to send to your friend. You have candy sticks, golden or white bells, globes in different shapes and colors, candles, lights, and many others. Just click and drag the one you like most and gift it. You can also type in a message that goes along with the gift, something nice like “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” and then click the “Send” button. The message can also be posted on your wall and maybe it will convince more of your friends to join in the fun of giving.

Every time you click on a tab to be redirected to a certain page of this application, you get all there funny lines while you’re waiting for the page to load, like “Getting the gears in action” or “Polishing Santa’s sleigh”. These funny messages really help you get into the Christmas spirit. We loved the fact that our Christmas trees were shown on a nice background with snow and a full moon. This particular detail reminded me of the North Pole (better said, the images of the North Pole I saw in Christmas movies).


In this application, you will notice that your tree has a rank in the network. Your objective should be to achieve the highest rank possible by constantly exchanging gifts with your friends. The customize option on your tree page allows you to change the place of the decorations in your tree. So, if you never get to decorate the tree at home because you’re always letting your kids, your wife or someone else in the family to do it, here is your chance to brag with the tree you decorated all by yourself. If family members want to join, let them make their own Facebook profiles and then add this application so they can join in the Giftreez decorating fun.
