ElcomSoft, a computer software company located in Russia, specialized in computer security and data recovery applications, has created products that became popular, such as the eBook processing and password recovery software, which consists the base of many Microsoft products.

It has recently brought into the light the idea of combining the power of a computer’s processor with its Graphics Processing Unit to create a “hardware/software powerhouse" that "will allow cryptology professionals to build affordable PCs that will work like supercomputers when recovering lost passwords," and the time it will take to perform password recovery will be reduced “by a factor of up to 25," meaning days, instead of months.
One important benefit of this method would be the reduced costs, according to Elcomsoft.
An example is the experiment done with password recovery software on Windows NT LAN Manager logon passwords, and a 150 video card, when they could increase the recovery speed of a PC by a factor of 20.
