Coolest Websites
Posted by: Techpin in Websites, design

We have evaluated hundreds of candidates to find the top choices for the coolest websites, many suggested by the readers, other by our friends, all discovered by the endless surfing of the Internet. The main issue was the dynamic offered by the site, which has to be based on information and entertainment at the same time. If you think we have missed some, we will gladly accept your 'criticism' because everybody enjoys a new site.
On the entertainment section we have thought considerably because you must take into consideration that there are thousands of sites all around the internet based on this. You have a variety from classical music or rock to very famous photography or collage humor or the famous favorite video logs. We picked out Drawn, Sundance Splinks, Jumpcut, Wolfgang's Vault, Podcast Pickle, Photo Muse, The 9, Pandora and YouTube.

Drawn is a collaborative blog made up for anybody that likes to draw and it was produced for sharing any form or kind of art works or resources. Do no worry if you are not an aspiring Pekar because you will enjoy all the work that is illustrated there with very warm and fun people.
The SunDance festival made up a list of very artsy sites that are very funky like and lets you create your own list of favorites because there are different styles involved here.
A project made by the International Center of Photo in New York City and from Rochester the George Eastman House that will remain sadly a work in progress is Photo Muse. It has a very good start, its goal being to get to 200, 000 images in their data base. You can even search them by photographer. It's a very cool site and you should check it out if you are feeling artsy.
On JumpCut you can edit and upload your very interesting videos that you have captured and share it with all you friends without meddling with all the pesky CD burning or other devices used just to get your video on the computer. Of course users are strongly suggested that they are not allowed to upload files with pornographic content because otherwise they will have their account banned and the video erased form the database.

To stream live recordings from all your favorite rock bands from the 60s or the 70s: Elvis Costello, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and many others you may use Wolfgang's Vault. This Radio also sells vintage photographs and posters all for the fans that are dying to have something real from their favorite artists.
The Podcast Pickle is a site that has very good quality of podcasts. Last time that I checked the directory had 150000 of casts. Automatically the site will download any new feeds as they are posted by any type of source. Sportpodcast.com and Churchpodcast.com were recently launched and they are already a hit.
The most popular site to share your videos is by far, YouTube. Many times the video quality is not that good and we keep getting in to watch stupid videos, but somehow you just can't stop to surf on it.
The 9 is a video blog that you can access in any week day morning and you will find the latest biggest and greatest stuff that can be found online. Blog posts, news stories, online discussions, movie trailers, video clips or quick accessing web sites with the song of the day or the photograph of the hour. This is a very interesting site and it is worth it to go online and search for it.

On Pandora you shall find an endless archive with a streaming radio station. You should just type in the name of your favorite band that you would rather listen and browse through all the songs that Pandora has to offer you. They are organized by albums and time table and also by their importance, because you won't find a bad band on it.
The place to go and to create your very own blog is for sure Blogger, tools being easily used and very ok to handle with. No you can write your stories online and let your friends check them out and rate them. All the movie trailers that you want to see you can find on Apple Movie Trailers and this site for sure will make you to switch to the broadband connection. On Craigslists you can find hundreds of classified ads but they are fit just for 300 in the U.S. You will not find that much across the globe because they are just now expanding.
If you want the latest news then you should check with Drudge Report that only last year got 3.6 billion visits. Ebay is the online powerhouse of auctions, allowing users to sell and buy products from each other and interact at a business level. 'I bought it on Ebay' is a very known phrase already. For all you sports fans the best site for all around sports, with all the sports videos, sports news, sports data galore and sports columns is ESPN. It had only last year 5 million viewers and it keeps growing, becoming a very powerful site.
You may have a public display of all your favorite and personal photographs because Flickr is here. You can make your blog there as well, being more interactive this way with all the images that you are going to include in your posting.
Google is one of the most important and powerful search engines on the Web, having all sorts of free applications like Picasa, Calendar or its on mail, Gmail. If you want to search academic papers you could use Google Scholar or if you want financial aid you could visit Google Finance. If you are looking for something and can't find it, 'google it'.

Another interesting site is HowStuffWorks, having easy explanations about many things that work to hybrid cars to a human kidney. If you want to know it all but you are tired of all the books and charters or pompous explanations, then this is the site for you.
These are our top picks for the coolest websites.
