Cool Stuff

The word ,,stuff’’ can refer to a material from which an object is made from, to  something to drink or eat , to things that are not worth, to sports or you can even use it as a slang word.

,,Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff At Work’’ is a book written by Richard Carlson. It is a book of affirmations and advice. Many of the ideas inside this book are either difficult or very simplistic for the reader with attention disorder. But it deserves to be bought for the cool stuff.

Carlson quoted one of his superiors that said ,,Accept the fact that there is almost always going to be someone mad at you.’’. And this words have so much truth in them , taking into consideration the fact that bosses are very sensitive to criticism, so this quote becomes a very good advice.Reading Carlson’s book I’ve noticed that he uses to many words.

You will inevitable disappoint someone by trying to please everyone. Although your intensions are positive and pure, you just can’t please everyone.Another cool stuff that he talks about in his work, are voice messages. I personally leave long messages and my friend always tell me about this.  The fact is, that voice messages are an excellent communication skill and no matter how long they are  more effective that the written messages.

In many cases, the longest voice message you can leave is about 3 minutes. In this 3 minutes, you can be very specific, detailed and answer to specific concerns and questions while the other person has the chance to play the message several times and  reflecting on the words.

Carlson gives some good advices like: don’t judge to quickly, and when the situation requires, say ,,no’’ without regret.

The book has 100 chapters and every chapter has a title. This is a good thing if you want to skip some chapters that are of no interest to you.

The book is all about reducing stress and encouraging enjoyment. The ,,Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff at Work’’ series help readers think about they perceive and solve the big ans small problems of everyday life.

On the other hand, Kristine Carlson wrote the same book but referring to women. Her book has also 100 chapters including calming advices about how the handle both work and family demands. Raising  children, making time for friends and trying to find time for self-care and reflection.

With memorable and clever titles such: Stop Comparing Yourself, Don’t be a Backseat driver, the writer helps readers realize what is really important , live with spirit, keep in touch with their feelings and if things are still going wrong, just laugh. This book is a really true life saver and also a collection easy to read and will inspire all the moms.

The second book of Carlson’s wife is called ,,Don't Sweat the Small Stuff in Love’’. This time she writes in first-person and talks mostly about her life and the life of her friends.

Carlson advices women to appreciate the childhood of their children, to try not to say bad words when you are angry, to be able to go on with their lives in case of divorce or death.

I’m sure that you agree with me that we have to much stuff in our homes. At least your grandmother has! The poorer we are, the most stuff we have. Because we don’t want to through anything away, thinking that it might be useful in the future. I have several examples I could give you: the clothes in the closet that I haven’t wore for years now and that I don’t want to give away (although I will probably never get into them because of the several pounds I gained over the years) , the old car that stand in front of my house    ( it doesn’t belong to me, thank God) and that my neighbor doesn’t want to  through away.

But it wasn’t always like this, years before stuff was valuable and rare, it was cool stuff. My grandma has a house near by, which was built in 1876 and there were no closets in the house because on those days people were keeping their cool stuff in chest of drawers.

When I take a look at old photos from 1970, I am really surprised seeing how empty houses were. When I was a child I thought that I had many toys but now when I see how many toys my nephew has, I’m amazed. The only clear space is the bed.

Cool stuff is cheaper now but we overvalue it. We take what others want to through and this is how we accumulate stuff. We buy things that we think are bargains but we don’t really need them. And if you are nor organized, it is very depressing to see a house full of stuff. A cluttered room kills the spirit and it is exhausting.

I first realized that stuff is worthless when I lived in Germany for a year and all I had with me was a backpack full one things I actually needed which was the cool stuff. The rest of my things I left at home and I didn’t miss anything except some books. By the end of the year the stuff that I left back home. The worse thing was that I accumulated useless stuff by spending money I really needed.

I stopped now accumulating stuff, except books, but books are cool stuff.
