A ,,house plan’’ is a set of construction and working drawings. Site plans are an overview of the construction and shows where the home is located on the property, the location of the utility services, easements, setback requirements, walkways and location of driveways. A floor is an overview of the entire house showing the sizes of the rooms, where the windows and doors are , will also include drawings for finishes or furniture. Elevations are drawn to scale and include rear, front and side elevations. All the details that are necessary for the architectural styling are specified, such as: the positioning of the final fall of the land, ridge heights, exterior finishes and roof pitches. A section describes how the home will be made  and takes a closer look to the internal finishes. They also explain in more detail certain conditions: ceiling type and height and dimensions of the doors and windows.

Some more information may be provided for cool house plans but this is compulsory: the plan of foundation, framing plan, the sub-floor plan, roof plan, interior walls drawings, detail drawings, structural layouts, electrical drawings that show the switches and what light they operate.

Lines and symbols are used in order to show the relationship between objects: thick lines for walls, thin dotted lines for special ceiling treatment .
