The word cartoon has several different meanings based on forms of illustration and visual art. The ones that draw this cartoons are called cartoonists.
At first , the term cartoon referred to a preliminary drawing for a piece of art. Nowadays, the term has not only a hilarious connotation but has the meaning of creative visual work for animated digital media and for electronic media.The first cartoon was dated 1843 and appeared in a magazine. Single section cartoons are cartoons with a speech balloon and they are called gaga cartoons. The best cartoonist is considered to be Peter Arno but there are severel other names that need to be mentioned: Gary Larson, Charles Addams, Charles Barsotti, Chon Day and Mel Calman.
Editorial cartoons are cartons that can be found exclusively in news websites and news publications. These cartoons use satire and irony on political and social themes.These so called editorial cartoons also use speech balloons. Some of the editorial cartoonists are: Mike Peters, Herblock, David Low, Gerald Scarfe and Jeff MacNelly.
Comic strips are to be found in newspapers and a short series. Cartoonists that are worth mention: Bill Watterson, Mort Walker, Scott Adams, Steve Bell.
Due to the similarities between animated movies and comic strips, carton is called animation. These are used in cinemas and television and are made of images moving fast.
Cartoonists don’t draw things as they are in real life. They use exaggerate features and less detail. Symbols are often used to show the character’s mood. For example: a cloud over the head indicates a bad mood. Symbols can transform an usual cartoon into a cool cartoon drawing! Young people love comic books. You should read and look at them, just for fun. Cartoon drawings are not a difficult thing to do. You could do it, too. It will give you an excellent feel. You just have to look around for ideas and then, use your imagination. Features must be exaggerated .

Superman is the fundamental superhero. But he is real superhero because he has powers from being an alien.

Originated from the 60’s, George of the Jungle is a parody after the Tarzan story. He is known because of the song ,,George, George, George of the Jungle…watch out for that tree!’’

Spider-man is also one of the kids favourite character. Who doesn’t want to be strong and famous?
The Powerpuff Girls are a girls trio named: Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup. They keep the Townsville, safe. What makes these cartoons more special are the big eyes and the crazy voices.
Angelica Pickles is the eldest from the Rugrats. She is known because she is mean and talkative.

Felix the cat is the black and white cat that you can recognize easily. He gained so much popularity that he featured a movie.
Even a quick look at the animation industry will show how much this industry evolved over the years due to the great demand. In the 80’s and 90’s the creators paid little attention to the sound effects and music. There were many cartoons with rock bands : Pussycats, Josie, Pebbles. In the 1980’s the cartoons were born again. Music is also very important in cartoons.
The bad part is that cartoons show violent behaviour. But studies show that children realize that the cartoons aren’t a reflection of reality. The response of the ones that create aggressive cartoons is that this is what people demand and consequently, this is what sells better.

Another study shows that kids usually imitate the models they see. This is a problem because we want our children not to imitate a bad model behaviour. Television plays an important role and its effects are clearly evidenced.
Political cartoons are old cartoons. They present a criticism of a person or an event. Cartoonists don’t attack their nationality. The main characters are evidenced by symbols. Details are very important in cartoons. Everything is there for a reason. Look at the cloths and at their actions. when looking at a political cartoon, you have to know some historical data in order to understand them.

Words are used to empower the non verbal characteristics. Famous slogans, saying, lyrics, or phrases that are very well known can be used as explanations.
A stereotype is a simple description of a group. It is used in a pejorative way but it emphasizes the wanted idea. Â Cartoons often suffer changes in shape and size just to make them funnier.
