Computers Banned in Chinese Universities!

After banning the use of RSS feeds, the Chinese government takes another step towards limiting the access to information, but this time, things look even worse than last time. As I heard recently, 3 popular Chinese universities don't allow their students in the first year to bring computers with them in the campuses, while other universities were forbidding them to do it for years!

How can one imagine a student in a technical university, in the first year, without a personal computer? Speaking for myself, I can't, and if that student attends programming courses, how is he going to improve his skills? Probably the Chinese officials believe that programming on a piece of paper is not really different from the real thing... but let's see what exactly happened!
According to recent reports, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zheijang University and Nanjing University changed their rules so freshmen won't be able to use their own computers. What's the official excuse for this?
Well, as I was expecting, they think freshmen won't be tempted to become dependent on online gaming, so they'll be able to concentrate on their studies. Good, great, awesome, but what about those that really need a computer to study? After all, if you can't have your computer with you in the campus, there are plenty of computers in the cybercafes and university's labs that you can use... for gaming, of course!
What else can I say? Usually, it's much better to work on preventing the addictions, and not trying to ban the object of that addiction. Online gaming addicts will always find a way around the fence put between them and their favorite game, so why bother taking decisions that also affect other people?
We should wait and see what's the result of this decision, but I think that China is playing with their youngs' future here. You can't replace one year of programming and study on your own computer with a crowded university data center , but that's what we shall see in the future...

FUCK CHINA!!!
The hammer and sickle is not a symbol of china, but the old USSR.
The heathen chinee are outta control and their scamming with the Russkies to make a move on Taiway in exactly 2 years.
loco como me gusta la palabra barro
Information is power
aguanten los sea monkeys
So -- once again, why are we so concerned about China? Maybe, they'll kick our ass in the slide rule competition, but who cares?
The hammer and sickle are a simbol widely used by communist countries, and I know the Chinese banenr doesn't have them, but it's a stronger simbol to use than some stars...
We are concerned about China because we should be. As a joke, if they declare war on US and surrender in 1 minute after that, the US economy is going to be completely turned upside down by the costs involved by those millions of war prisoners... but taking things seriously, China is a matter to think about.
They proved that communism works, and despite all the human rights issues and state control on information, their country looks like an El Dorado for foreign companies. Now, what would happen if they would simply allow completely free use of the Internet and access to information? If India is a threat on the global IT market, think about millions of Chinese programmers working for 3 times less the money you pay to an Indian!
If they could, Chinese wouldn't allow know one to have knowledge. That is the only way that can become smarter. Monkeys!
fuck indians and fuck the chineese
"They proved that communism works". WTF?
u stupid. ever seen a campus without a public computer room?
THINK
in most offices they don't allow you to bring your computer and plug it to the net without precaution or in many cases you simply not allowed to bring your comp at all.
THINK.
you think you are smarter than Chinese. most stupid guys do.
FUCKIN' START THINKING WILL YA? :))))
SadPanda, don't you agree that despite all their problems, the Chinese are slowly becoming a super power, and their economy also is better than that of some so-called "democratic" countries?
name - Yes, I have seen a campus without a public computer room! I have seen a lot of campuses without a public computer room!
This wasn't about the office, you don't sleep and live in the office, but you do that in the campus. Nobody said we're smarter than the Chinese, not even us, it's just the fact that maybe not all their choices are the best, that's it!
"They proved that communism works, and despite all the human rights issues and state control on information, their country looks like an El Dorado for foreign companies."
You are very wrong with that !!!!! Communism is been proved from other countries' experiences that is not working. Without the FREEDOM OF SPEECH you can't say you are alive. You are practically walking through life with blind eyes.
i agree with Sierra..
The "good parts" of the communism are an "ensured" future, and i am referring at a place to work, i don't know, a wife, many children, i mean you know what you'll do for the rest of your life since the minute you are born. But this is a robot life. Without access to information you will die stupid.
For a lot of people, communism vs democracy is blind eyes vs long term stability. While the lack of freedom of speech is bad, democracy after communism in most countries is even worse.
In communism, you have to keep your mouth shut, or you get into trouble; in democracy, you can shout for as long as you want, because nobody is listening to you, anyway...
How do computer science majors do their trade then?
