Cinch Digital Home
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in NextGen PC Design Competition

How would it be to have a tool that would give you the control of your entire home electronic devices in your hand even if you are not in town?

Wouldn’t it be great to use something like a small handheld with specific functions for each of your home devices, controlled by a central server designed to match any type of interior aspect?

This idea is possible to be realized and Cinch Digital Home concept’s designers explain how simple it is if the manufacturers would build three main elements – the server, a display and the handheld – and a few additional components such as left and right channel speakers, add-on storage, a memory expansion module and a MEM-Jet printer.

Let’s see what their roles are!
You could be in another city let’s say in a business trip and take the handheld out of your pocket to make remote settings to your digital home system, while the main server from your home processes and organizes all your requests.
If you are home you can see what you are setting on the large OLED display with touch-sensitivity, but as you are away, the mobile handheld shows you all on a smaller screen.

Cinch is destined to those families that have children and a very busy life, too busy to have time to control their digital lifes, often loosing track of their documents because they can’t remember what PC they left it on, and they are not interested in learning about new sophisticated technologies that would improve their lifes.

Cinch Digital Home Concept is created with the simplicity in mind, optimized for best organization, data security, and wireless connectivity, following the environmental responsible laws by using upgradeable components, reduced power consumption, and reduced technical support.

The designers believe that the best shape would be those in the pictures with the following dimensions: 15 x 48 x 3 inches for the server, 10 x 16 x 0.75 inches for the display and 5 x 2.25 x 0.5 inches for the handheld.
The user would access the tasks via a friendly interface optimized for sharing and easy switching between user accounts, with single and composed items that link together and are centralized on the server.

For easy functioning, the wireless network needs a protocol with little input from the user.
