Check my Account Balance on Vista Sidebar Gadget
Posted by: Sierra Monica B. in Gadgets

I have to recognize this is a very useful Vista sidebar gadget, at least it would be in my case, allowing me to remain in the comfort of my home, continue working and check my account balance via real-time bank account updates in nice pop-ups from the sidebar. Having it activated I’d be always up to date with my account balance including transactions and all other related stuff.
On the other hand I am asking myself “How crazy should I be to expose my bank account information this way?â€
First thing I should consider is the security layers this gadget works on, and I could continue to read about the fact that its developers created it with my safety in mind, but this wouldn’t give me any assurance, would it?

But let’s give them a chance and find all the details about this gadget called the Wesabe Gadget for Windows Vista.
Wesabe is an online community with people sharing advices and information on making better financial decisions, achieving different financial goals. It also provides this new gadget, which is an online money management tool that keeps all your bank account details in one space.
Wesabe was named Best Free Budgeting Web Site by Personal Finance of Kiplinger, and also supports over 6,000 financial institutions in about 30 countries.
To use the gadget you don’t have to provide any banking credentials and Wesabe doesn’t use a third-party aggregation vendor for managing the data upload process. They use hacking-free industry-standard SSL encryption for your information and personal identifiers such as name and email address are removed.
The gadget uses Windows Vista’s built-in security and updates shown in the sidebar are read-only, meaning you can’t make transactions via the gadget or the Wesabe website.

"With the Wesabe Vista Gadget, an up-to-date snapshot of your finances is always in your sidebar, automatically updating. You can check balances, see if a purchase has posted - essentially, get a real-time view of the state of your money," said Marc Hedlund, CEO of Wesabe. "This is hugely
convenient. Instead of having to log in to individual bank sites or even Wesabe to check your balances, you just have to check your Vista sidebar."
