A truck is a commercial vehicle, used to transport materials and  goods. The name of ,,truck’’ is from American English but is also called ,,lorry’’ in British English. It can also be used as a usual passenger car. The Greek word ,,trocos’’ stands at the base of the etymology of the word ,,trucks’’. Trucks are larger than normal cars or have an open load bed. The term ,,lorry’’ is used for heavy and medium types such as: pickup, van, jeep, in Ireland and United Kingdom. What in U.K is called an estate car, in America is a station wagon. In Romania is called ,,camion’’ and in Italy is called ,,tir’’.

The construction of a truck is made of: chassis, cab, cargo, axles, road wheels and engine. The cab is the place where the driver seats. The compartment attached is called sleeper. It is the place where the drivers sleep when they are not driving. Here are some configurations that are possible for the cab: the cab over engine configuration is also called flat nose. This design is widely used in Europe. This type was invented by Viktor Schreckerngost. In North America the most common are conventional cabs. The driver stands behind the engine. A conventional car has 1.8 to 2.4 m and are very resistant to the wind and some disadvantages would be , they consume more fuel and they have poor visibility. Cab besides engine designs are rare.

The first truck was made by Gottlieb Daimler in 1896. Most small truck such as pickups have gasoline engines but nowadays many diesel engines are produced. For stroke diesel engine are the most heavier trucks, having intercooler and turbocharger. Huge trucks use  V12 Detroit Diesel engine. Euro 5 emissions are mandatory in European Union. Small cool trucks can have manual or automatic transmission. They have 9, 10,13,15 and 18 speeds. By having a semi-automatic or an automatic transmission, trucks can lower the fuel consumption and the durability improved and give the driver more concentration on the road.

As well as automobiles, trucks also contribute to several forms of pollution especially from the diesel particulate matter. They pollute phonic more than  automobiles do. The noises come from tires, turbocharger, exhaust brake retarder. Despite the improvements in vehicle fuel efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions increased. Organizations suggest the change from road to rail.

Unfortunately everyone knows that trucks are responsible for the highway damages. The only good thing that comes to my mind right now is that, the deliver of goods must be made somehow. There are 2 types of trucks: rigid trucks or articulated trucks. An articulated truck has a semi trailer and a truck unit. Rigid trucks are normally small trucks that don’t need to be articulated. There are also two kinds of cabs: cabover and conventional. In the 1890s the gas and diesel engines were invented. In 1800 was built the first truck which was powered by steam engines.



Trucks with tankers can carry liquids such as: water, milk, oil. Trucks are the giants of the highway. I personally consider them monsters, I am really afraid when I see one next to my car. It seems like only the tyre is as big as my little car .

There are trucks that clean the street, mix concrete and trucks that stop the fire. This world is fool of big machines that were created in order to help us perform many jobs.

Trucks can be seen all around the world, no matter if it is day or night, they are always on the road. Big trucks are powerful and impressive but little trucks have their importance, too. Ford Motor Company sold in 1925 the first pick-up. Millions of pick-ups are sold each year .



From their childhood men love trucks. All they want to become when they grow up, is drivers. From truck sticker to truck toys they collect everything and make their dream come true as elders .

It’s been almost an year since the first article I published on a gadget blog and it’s been quite an experience, because otherwise I wouldn’t have had the chance to read and write about so many concept gadgets that seemed to be (and they still do, as a matter of fact) not only very difficult to imagine for regular people, but also spectacular and sometimes unbelievable.

Some of those gadgets seem to be like a dream that will never come true. However, many of them became reality, but many, many others are still waiting in line for them to see the light of the day. It might never happen, but designers from all over the world keep trying, even if, at first glance, it isn’t worthwhile.

Such a concept is the one created by Marten Wallgren, Il Choi, David Seesing and Miika Hekkinen, which is inspired by the traffic situation in London. The team had to imagine how the traffic will look like in 2030 and to create a vehicle to perfectly suit that certain context.



“Our concept was to create a car-free-zone in the central of London, called London Garden. Inside this zone we developed a system created around bicycles. Allowing a special designed bicycle/scooter to be well integrated with the infrastructure as well as becoming a part of the interior of the busses and taxis. Inside London Garden, the users have more awareness of the individual energy consumption. In fact, the energy that you create while biking is used as a currency while docking the bicycle into the bus or taxi.” (from Marten Wallgren’s blog)



The bike concept was part of a contest called “Future City Mobility” and managed to win the Seymour Powell award. It comes with solar panels that are placed on the wheels, helping the bike generate energy which is being stored in the bike itself.



If you wonder what the user can do with the amount of energy, you should know that the bicycle can easily turn into an electric scooter. More than that, the designers came up with an entire network of electric means of transportation, from buses to taxis and scooter-bikes. It sounds like a Utopia, right?

For those who are keen on never missing whatever might be happening in their surroundings and who love to see the strangest things in the whole world, here’s something to blow their minds: the WhiteKnightTwo.

It looks as weird as a four-armed human being (some of you might recognize in such a description the Hindu goddess called Kali, which is popularly portrayed in the four-armed form), but it undoubtedly draws anyone’s attention.

And if you want a confirmation, ask people from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, who had the chance to see the creature flying above their heads. The WhiteKnightTwo is a launch craft that people could see for the first time during the Air Venture gathering of the Experimental Aircraft Association, which takes place every year and it’s for the commercial space venture of Richard Branson.

There is a collaboration going on between engineer Burt Rutan, they guy who went to space five years ago (sometime in 2004) and who won the Ansari X prize, consisting of $10 million, and the British billionaire, that had as a result this aircraft.

Virgin Galactic is the company that you should all blame for the apparition of this venture and it has already reported 300 bookings. Multiply it by $200,000 and you will find what a great business the WhiteKnightTwo already is. Quite impressive, you have to admit.

People have used the power of wind for ages, ever since they needed to go from a place to another or to maintain their commercial relations with people from other countries. The “amphibious catamaran”, as the company described it, can be driven by one or two persons (no more than two) both on sand and water. A great advantage of Sea-Quad is that you can easily control it and has a bar that is connected to the kite. So, all the pilot has to do is to just take the kite in the right place: into the wind, I mean.

For the moment, the Sea-Quad is in the concept phase. Or in the development phase, call it as you like. But what won’t be on your liking is the hefty price which is said to be of approximately $13,950, when the boat is released. Quite much, right?

Maybe the idea the first baby carriage was based on had nothing to do with the “robotic” life kids are supposed to live these days, but more and more researchers are involved in projects that are trying to demonstrate how useful robots can be in the growth and education of our kids.

I disagree. Actually, I cannot express my objection the way I’d like to, but one thing’s for sure: robots will never replace humans. And when I say never, I mean never.

And I just can’t understand those who justify their actions by saying that this is in the best interest of the little one.
