iPhone 2.0 Upgrade

There is a company from Lawrence, Massachusetts, specialized in consumer electronic upgrades and trade-ins, that started a nice initiative that allows customers to change their first generation iPhone with a brand new iPhone 3G model.
NextWorth gives you enough trade-in cash to cover the upgrade to the iPhone 3G. As you probably know, you have to pay $199 for a new iPhone 3G 8GB and $299 for the 16GB version, to which you’ll add the 1-year o 2-year contract costs.

If you bring the first version of the iPhone 8GB model, NextWorth is giving you $299, while for the 16GB you get $300. The only requirement you have to meet is that your cell phone to be in perfect condition, with no scratches and with all the original accessories included. In case your handset has some problems, you still can enter the upgrade program but you’ll receive a smaller amount of money.
What NextWorth does with the phones is to refurbish and resell, or sell piece by piece via certified recycling partners, if the damage is too high, promoting this way the reuse.

How can you change your iPhone first version with the brand new iPhone 3G? –First you have to visit the company’s website and provide the details including model and condition of the handset. Based on these, the value will be estimated and if you accept the offer you’ll receive a box in which to place the device in order to send it back. After the phone is verified, you’ll receive a certified check in about 7-14 days.
Before starting this, you should check the list to see if there is a participating retailer near you.
In addition to the iPhone, you can also trade your iPod.

“As the demand for the first generation iPhone in secondary markets remains strong, we are able to offer higher dollar exchanges and remove the price issue from the decision to upgrade to a 3G iPhone,” said Dave Chen, CEO of NextWorth. “We’re taking advantage of this unique spike in market values and passing the dollars back to consumers, making the upgrade process as fast and easy as possible.”

The 01 Phone

<-125x125 Button - right->
We don’t know what company made this public on the Internet or if this is real or a mask promo for something else. Maybe it’s just a concept but then why all talk about it like about an upcoming cell phone sensation prepared for later this year, more exactly in 27 days?
The thing is that www.the01phone.com was discovered by T3, and from their description we find out that this cool cell phone might kick the iPhone off the stage as soon as it will enter into the mass production.

Until we will have more details and manage to contact the company, let’s say that the 01 Phone brings an advanced 5MP digital camera built in, high-speed 3G Internet connectivity support, 32Gb internal memory for cool media files like music, videos and 3D games, as well as a red laser full QWERTY keyboard that projects on the desk.
Music keys on the phone allow the user to play, pause, rewind and forward multimedia stuff, while the earbuds are worn.

One interesting thing in design is that the video call camera is located in front of the phone, instead of on the back, while the 5MP module created high-resolution images or records nice videos on the go.
We are curious to see what will happen when the countdown ends so stay tuned and receive the latest updates on this upcoming cell phone.

Samsung Omnia Unboxing

<-125x125 Button - right->
This is a special post dedicated to one of our readers who signed a comment as Alex Ramezees Cruize, telling us how stunned he is after seeing the Samsung Omnia smartphone and reading about its features.
We have here a video posted on YouTube 2 days ago, presenting this cool cell phone unboxing.

To highlight its most innovative features and give you all a big picture about the phone model we wrote about on CameraPhonesPlaza.com, we’ll enumerate them.
Samsung Omnia, also known as Samsung i900, comes with a built-in 5MP digital camera capable of 2592 x 1944 resolution for still pictures, autofocus, image stabilizer, flash, and video recorder, while providing a secondary camera for video calls.

The cell phone has GPS receiver featuring A-GPS for geotagging your pictures with location details, Java, FM radio, the Office documents suite including PDF viewer, multimedia player, DivX support, TV out, voice memo, up to 7.2Mbps transfer speeds via HSDPA 2100 technology, unlimited number of phone book entries and call records, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, RSS feeder, HTML web browsing support, email, and Instant Messaging.

Announced in June and released last month on the market, Samsung Omnia is a black handset measuring 112 x 56.9 x 12.5 mm at 122 grams, coming with some of the latest high technologies used in the mobile industry, such as a 3.2-inch TFT touchscreen of 256k colors, handwriting recognition, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate to display full web pages in landscape mode, a 624MHz Marvell PXA312 processor for fast operations and quick switching between tasks, as well as up to 16GB internal memory expandable via a microSD memory card.

Alexander and Atila

Maybe you’ve encountered on the Internet some so-called leaked pictures of a new handset from Motorola. First pictures were with Motorola Alexander, and the new ones show a similar mobile phone but with touch capabilities and no sliding QWERTY keyboard like in Alexander.
We have no idea if these Motorola cell phone secrets are real, but who knows… maybe the company will publish an official press release about this subject, confirming or denying their existence.

Until then let’s see what the specification lists of these cool cell phones with rounded edges are, and the pictures of both published on different mobile reviews websites.
The model codenamed Alexander (probably the Great) was unveiled on the Internet back in June but since then there was no additional information.

The specifications list of the Motorola Alexander the Great swan song goes something like: built-in 5 or 8 megapixel digital camera, an NVIDIA graphic chip for videos and 3D graphics support, GPS tracking capability via an integrated module, Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, and AGPS, that functionality with which you can add meta tags to your pictures, with location details, so at a later time to be able to remember where you captured them.

Everything sounds cool, but I think I prefer the second option, a full touchscreen and no keyboard, in a rounded black handset with silver margins. Well, maybe there is an on-screen virtual keyboard version.

What we know about this phone is its codename, Motorola Atila, and that it’ll feature HSDPA connectivity technology to enable transfer speeds of up to 732Mbps, a 1130mAh battery, Wi-Fi, a Qualcomm 7201A chipset, the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, and will sport a large, 2.8-inch display of 240 x 320 pixels.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional on a full-touchscreen cell phone means fast texting, advanced web browsing, easier to use email and Bluetooth functionalities, nice home screen interface, some security enhancements, fast Wi-Fi start, and other interface improvements.

OASIS Touch Surface

Still waiting on that Spore game to appear? I know, we’ve been waiting for it for quite some time now, but until we actually get to play this game on our PCs, we could get ourselves an OASIS touch table. Check out this clip first:

OASIS (HD) - sand from yunsil heo on Vimeo

Pretty nifty, huh? has been designed by Yunsil Heo, who claims that his prototype is an enjoyable space where people play combining the use of natural materials like sand, pebbles, leaves and water, and a touch sensitive display. Virtual aquatic creatures are born, evolve and perish when people create “oases” in the sand. Furthermore, by placing pebbles, tapping the surface or moving leaves, people can communicate with the virtual creatures.

There are two variants. With OASIS - sand (the one in the first clip) you can create virtual areas of water in the sand, and watch how evolve within the territory you just shaped. This way you can shape complicated regions, making a canal between two large ponds or trapping fish in small areas. The little virtual creatures are designed to avoid pebbles that people place on the touch sensitive surface area and scatter around when pebbles are dropped.

Another variant comes in the form of OASIS - water. Here, the small fish-like creatures have the tendency of chasing the leaves floating on the water. As leaves are translucent, you can easily spot the silhouettes of the creatures beneath them. When you change the position of the leaves, the creatures immediately try to hide under the nearest leaf they identify.

OASIS is just a prtotype for the moment, but Yunsil hopes he could commercialize it when touch surfaces get cheaper.
