GINA is probably inspiring you a woman’s name but in BMW’s latest car prototype case it has a totally different meaning.
G comes from Geometry, Shapes and Function, IN represents the infinite mathematical number n, while the A comes from Adaptation, so in one expression GINA means Geometry in an Infinite Number of Adaptations.
BMW designers wanted to create a different car that breaks the barriers of the Standard. They wanted to “let materials talk in a different manner” and GINA’s philosophy is “being flexible, thinking flexible, acting flexible. Context over Dogma”.
Watch the first video presentation to get the first clue:

Before watching the next introduction video you should ask yourselves the following questions. Their answers are the next clue for what’s coming. Are you prepared?
Does a car roof really have to rest on pillars and be bordered by windows?
Do all functions have to be visible at all times, even when they are not needed? How many personalization options does my car offer?
Are there any possible alternatives to the rigid body shell made of steel or plastic?Prepare yourself for a new era
In GINA’s philosophy new materials and innovative construction should be integrated and the questions displayed in the following video have led to groundbreaking solutions. You will read the questions and will think: “Wow! I have never thought of that this way until now!”
At the base of the GINA concept stays a creative process of design, more exactly the adoption of new manufacturing methods and material concepts, these without leaving behind the ergonomics, functionality and other important aspects that increase the emotional relationship between the user and his/her car.BMW GINA Light Visionary Model: Design
In the last video you will hear things which you are already familiar with and you will understand, like I did, that this BMW car concept is equipped with different types of components compared to what you are used with. For example, the exterior is made of a flexible material with totally different properties than the standard solutions existent on the market. This textile fabric stretches across movable structures.
Another things that needs to be mentioned is that GINA is conceived in such a way to display to the driver only the functions that he/she needs in the individual driving situation, this increasing the emotional relationship between the driver and the car.BMW GINA Light Visionary Model: Premiere
