AMD New Catalyst Video Driver Brings Big Performance Gains

It’s not something new that with the release of each new driver the performance in 3d applications of the video cards from the Radeon HD range has increased and became more adapted to the today’s demands of the new PC video-games. Just a few days ago, the 7.10th version has been released and it is accompanied by an impressive list of tweaks and fixes, as well as general release notes.
In the list of performance gains there are very popular games and some numbers that tell us just about how much we should expect of the overall performance to get some added percentage. For example in Battlefield 2142 there is an increase of 23%, while in Bioshock (on a DX10 CrossFireâ„¢ System) there is a considerable amount of 70%! Mostly the new Direct X 10 games have been looked at and the drivers have been improved accordingly: Call of Juarez gets 42% gains I CrossFireâ„¢ mode, and 34% in single card mode. Other titles like Company of Heroes, Quake Wars, Lost Planet, Supreme Commander, and World in Conflict will run much smoother with the new driver, with stimulated performance ranging from 25 to 82%.
GeCube has even released a special edition of a Radeon 2600Pro Card that comes as the first card with a bundled Direct X 10 Game, the Call of Juarez that I have mentioned above – the box has been customized with images from the game and the card has 256MB DDR 2 video-memory. The design of the card reminds us very much of the “top of the line†from the Radeon 9550XT series. There is no doubt that you will be able to enjoy the eye-candy visuals from the bundled game and you can also play it on a HDTV by using the HDMI connector.
