When a company is trying to catch the attention of the most pretentious part of the public, it usually comes up with a special edition of one of the products better sold or most popular it has in its line-up and dresses it up in a very elegant outfit that will most certainly make everyone curious about it.

So, it doesn’t matter if you want to give your car a touch of glamour, just like you’ve been accustomed so far, or you want to give it to your best friend as a birthday gift. But the TomTom White Pearl will be the perfect choice whatever you might want to do with it.

Based, of course, on the typical design of a TomTom portable navigation device, the White Pearl is adorned with a very elegant design, pearlascent, as the company presented it, on the start up screen. The point of departure is the ONE IQ Routes edition, but you’ll be happy to see that this new model is equipped with some fresh features such as “Places to be seen” or “Shop ‘til you drop”. So, if you’re the type of person who likes to explore new places on a regular basis, then you’ll be having everything you need at the palm of your hand from now on: bars, cafes, coffee shops, cinemas, restaurants and theatres, but also fashion and home furnishing stores.

Other important features that you can find within the White Pearl include the Help Me!, a set of safety features such as the “Where I am?” function or the emergency phone numbers.

“We designed the White Pearl to appeal to anyone wanting to give someone (or themselves) a very special gift, spicing up an already excellent navigation product with some fun, exclusivity and style. From birthdays to anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day as well as Christmas, we believe this will make an extremely useful and desirable gift”, said Corrine Vigreux, the Managing Director at TomTom.

The White Pearl is said to become available sometimes during this month on Amazon.co.uk, under a suggested retail price of £179.99.

Concept keyboard, kind of weird

concept-keyboard-kind-of-weird-01s
Weird was the word people used when referring to the ergonomic keyboard, back in those days when they first appeared. And, if you think about it, it’s understandable, as they looked different from any other keyboard that was available in the market.

concept-keyboard-kind-of-weird-01

Weird is the word I am tempted to use when looking at the keyboard above, which doesn’t look familiar to me, even if I have had the chance to see all sorts of unusual products so far. It is called the Combimouse and is a combination between a keyboard and a mouse. As you can see for yourselves, it is equipped with the QWERTY keyboard that we all know very well and with a built-in standard mouse.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

It’s also very easy to observe that there are two different parts of the keyboard, the right one being very similar to an arrow that points to the other half. If you wonder why the designer has thought to such a design, let me tell you there is some logic in it: the “arrow” can slide on the desk, being able to act just like a regular mouse. So, you can use this half as a keyboard, as long as you don’t move it around to your desk. The moment it senses the movement, the keyboard turns into a mouse and you’ll see the cursor move. Yeah, you’re right, the keys are the click buttons: I, O, J, K and L.

More than that, it seems that this concept keyboard has been tested at the Wichita State University, where it was a real success. For the moment, you can only go to the product’s page and see how the concept keyboard works, as it’s not available for purchase.

No more free books on tape!

no-more-free-books-on-tape-01s
These days, people don’t like to read books anymore! Some say it’s a bad thing, and I agree, some consider this activity to be boring and useless, as books cannot teach us how to live our lives and what to do in certain situations. They say, in addition, that experience makes it all, so we don’t need books for anything. Books are knowledge, and it’s a reason good enough for me to continue reading as much as I can.

But what can people do when they’re caught in the middle of a desperate situation that doesn’t allow them to read? Because it can happen, you know? You can use the EzRead, a device that seems to be the result of a futuristic era, where fiction is more familiar than reality.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

EzRead is actually a scanner that allows you to read books on television. And why would you like to do this? Well, probably if your sight isn’t as good as it was when you were twenty, I suppose, ‘cause I see no other reason for someone to prefer reading on the television.

“Cooler than books on tape and way more fun than subtitles, EzRead transforms your reading material into televised material.”

The only thing you are supposed to do is to just place the device on a book, magazine, a newspaper, or whatever you might want to read, and you’ll have a magnified image displayed on your screen. Not to mention it will be in full color and illuminated. Having the text enlarged, it will be easier for you to read. This way, puzzling labels on prescription bottles out won’t be a problem from now on!

What you should know is that the magnification is directly proportional to the size of your TV display. So, if you have a 14 inch monitor, the images will be magnified to 5.3X, then to 6.5X with a 17 inch monitor, to 8X on a 21 inch, to 10.3X on a 27 inch and to 12.2X on a 32 inch display. The device runs on three AAA batteries which are not included in the package or on the supplied A/C power adapter.

The EzRead is available for purchase for $99.95.

Rolls Royce with a purse holder for your lady

Nobody cares about the recession, the financial crisis or whatever you might want to call it. Nobody cares, even if the predictions are gloomy. After all, if you were a wealthy human being before the recession started, you cannot act like a poor one now, just because everyone is talking about this fiery crisis.

You cannot give up on your dream to have your own purse holder in the Rolls Royce your hubby promised will give you as a birthday present. You cannot and you will not!

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

In the given context, the Rolls Royce 200EX is just what the doctor ordered for you. It’s luxurious and expensive and it comes with the purse holder you are yearning for. We don’t know how the engineers from Rolls Royce came up with this idea, probably it was one of the wives that did, but it seems that the 200EX is equipped with a tray that senses the purse when it gets closer and closer, so it automatically slides up.

And I suppose that the purse will feel the most comfortable ever, giving the reputation of the company that sells the car and, in consequence, the price. It should worth the money, I’d say. Unfortunately, your lady’s purse will never be able how great it feels when lazing within the purse holder of a Rolls Royce.

Welcome to the paperless society!

welcome-to-the-paperless-society-01s
It is strange how life makes us understand some things by doing nothing in particular and still manages to change the way we think and we prefer to live the rest of our days in a twinkling of the eye. I remember that when I was a little girl I loved the image of my dad, spending his spare time at the office, surrounded by tons of deeds. I found this the most fascinating thing in the whole world even if he always told me that he hated the amount of paperwork he has to deal with each and every day of his life.

welcome-to-the-paperless-society-011

Well, I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but I reached that moment when I have to admit that he was right. Paper is bad. Paper is very bad. And I’d like to live, for a day at least, in a paperless room, a paperless world, a paperless society. Just for a day!

Well, it is possible for my dream to come true, because here we have the NeatDesk, a compact ADF scanner (ADF means automatic document feeder, for those who didn’t know) that helps you (ok, me) to get rid of the tons of paper that suffocate me on a regular basis.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The only thing you should do is to push one button, and there you go: 10 receipts, 10 business cards and 10 documents will suddenly go digital! Afterwards, the $400 device is able to organize the copies it makes and to extract the information, so that you can digitally use it whenever you need. Compatible with a PC or Mac, the helps you export to Excel, Quicken or Quickbooks or it scans for itself a document and then convert it into a searchable PDF. So, paperless society, here we come!
