From time to time I have written about some interesting devices that we were offered by Hammacher Schlemmer and that seemed to be not only innovative, but very peculiar in the same time.

This time, for example, I’m going to tell you about a timepiece that is claimed to be the first ever Worldwide Atomic Solar Watch. I cannot say they are totally right, because I actually don’t know, but it is quite impressive as far as the things it is able to do are concerned.

So let’s see if the device is worth the bother. First of all, it was deisgned to receive signals from six different atomic clock radio broadcasts from all over the world, so that the user can enjoy the benefits of an infallible timekeeping. More than that, he/she won’t have to worry about setting the time or replacing its battery.

Another advantage is the fact that this atomic solar watch is also able to automatically update itself, synchronizing with no more than six times during each day with the help of the “time signals broadcast by radio clocks located in the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan (two clocks) and China”.

So, let’s now see how the watch works. First of all, you should select a home city. Based on the name of the city you provide, the watch will try to get its signal from the radio clock transmitter that is the nearest to the certain city. There are some photovoltaic cells placed in the watchface that are designed to capture the sunlight and then to convert this sunlight into power. This way the integrated battery is being powered and it will operate approximately seven months.

On the other hand, the Worldwide Atomic Solar Watch can be set for the Daylight Saving Time, telling you the time for 48 different cities of the world. Other features include a 1/100th second stopwatch, a countdown timer and four alarms. As for the material the watch is made of, you should know it’s a durable resin resistant to shocks. The watch is also waterproof.

Parents should be very careful when it comes to the strong connection that can appear between their kids and the virtual world, that can easily be accessed by the little ones through the PC and further through the Internet. If you ask me, I really think that kids shouldn’t be allowed to surf the Internet as much as they like, because a significant amount of the information isn’t suitable to their age.

The TG Sambo LLUON Kidscom (this is its name, actually) was especially designed for children, with the main purpose to help them learn and then improve computing skills. And in order to do this, there are some educational materials that are pre-installed.



Those who are familiar with the LLUON A1 desktop designed by Sambo have already recognized the design in the new model. What makes it different from any other computer of its type is that this one is much more kid-friendlier than ever. The colorful LCD touchscreen comes with touch sensitive capabilities, so it will be much easier for your child to enter all sorts of commands or instructions. Other features concerning the computer are not known, for the moment.

But knowing that it will help children access an important amount of educational materials should be fundamental and decisive for every parent. Because, after all, this can be considered a computer training for kids that can be easily kept under control.

As for the price, we’l have to be patient until Sambo decides to reveal it.

Generally speaking, I love dogs very much. So much, actually, that one of my biggest regrets ever is the fact that my parents never allowed me to have one, because my father has a very peculiar fear when it comes to those cute barking creatures.

I would have loved to have one, but that’s that. I should move on, really! But if there’s one thing I hate about them is that they start barking, with no reason apparently, and there’s nothing for you to do about it.

Anyway, if you feel like you’ve made a big mistake when you decided to become a carpenter, for example, even if you were a very good entertainer, then you should know that you still have a chance. A chance to make your dream come true, due to a product that was revealed during the 2009 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Called Yoostar, this product is considered to be “what CES is all about”. Or at least this is what the president and CEO of CEA thinks. This is an entertainment system that gives you the chance to go from ordinary to extraordinary. It gives the chance to feel the whole action of a movie, to become part of your favorite scene, to catch the essence of the atmosphere.



The Yoostar includes a portable green screen, on one hand, and a webcam with high resolution and then a microphone. In addition, there is a special software to come along with the package that is able to remove Al Pacino from the movie and insert the user instead. And guess what? You can improvise as much as you like.

Now, you can choose from famous movie scenes that you know from one of the following movies: Employee of the month, Forrest Gump, Psycho, Rocky Balboa, The Godfather and The Terminator.

But you might ask if there’s a purpose involved in this story. Well, there is: you can always upload the movie parody to a social networking website and show the world how good you are.

They came up with a mini camera that goes underwater. More than that, you won’t have to worry about its portability, because it will be easy for you to use, as you can see for yourself. Attach it to your goggles and you’re ready to go! Or you can use the headband provided by Thanko and look like a total geek!

The waterproof camera is resistant to depths of no more than 20 meters and has an internal memory of 2GB, which is pretty enough. The video can be recorded in a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and at 25 frames per second (fps). It has, on the other hand, a USB 1.1 interface.

When it comes to charging its battery, it won’t last more than 2 hours and then you’ll be able to use for approximately 2-3 hours. The mini video camera measures 68 millimeters in length and 19 millimeters in diameter, and weighs no more than 22 grams. You can have one for $130, but only if you’re from Japan, unfortunately.
