Tobii Launches Devices with Symbols and Text to Speech Converter

Tobii ATI introduced two new communication devices especially designed for people with communication disabilities, or in other words, people who can’t speak.
The main technology that stands at the base of the two models is text-to-speech and the devices are called Tobii C8 and Tobii C12. Now let’s see what these two feature and what the differences between the two are.
Tobii C8 and Tobii C12 were designed like tablet PCs and are modular so that users can change applications and input methods according to their needs.

They can turn into speech not only the texts but also the symbols.
While Tobii C8 has an 8-inch touchscreen display and can be controlled either via a switch, a standard keyboard or a mouse, featuring infrared remote control functionality for TV panels and switch lights, the 12-inch Tobii C12 adds eye control for those who can’t use standard keyboards.

The module that enables this high-end technology is called Tobii CEYE and allows the user to just look at the display and control the mouse by blinking, dwelling and using the switch.
To learn more about the two devices you may browse the official website or visit ATIA 2009 in Orlando until January 31, where they will be showcased.

"The launch of the Tobii C8 and C12 is a proud moment for us. We have taken what we have learned from our successful MiniMercs, Mercuries, and MyTobii P10s and paired that with the market's requests for a lighter, more reliable and energy efficient device. The result is a communication platform that will help many remarkable individuals to live more fulfilled, integrated and independent lives," says Jane Walerud, Business Area Manager of Assistive Technologies at Swedish Tobii Technology AB.

New Japanese gadgets from Sony

This was the morning of the carnival in some parts of this world and look what happened with the Sony PSPs that were presented to you in a more traditional way as far as the colors are concerned. This is a very important move of the company, if you think about it.

Therefore, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), which “is a video game company specializing in a variety of areas in the video game industry, mostly in video game consoles and is a full subsidiary of Sony that was established on November 16, 1993 in Tokyo, Japan”, decided to add some delightful colors to their PSP-3000 line. This means that the new Japanese gadgets from Sony are now available in four new bright colors, such as blue, red, green and yellow.

There is a disadvantage about these PSPs and one disadvantage only, more precisely the fact that the RGBY PlayStation Portable will only get to see the Japanese light of the day. And if you’re a best-deals hunter, then you’ll be happy to know that SCE thought of launching the new devices with a kit, consisting of a memory stick of 4 GB, a 2200 mAh battery, a pouch and a handstrap.

These new Japanese gadgets will cost approximately $220, but if you want to purchase the whole package, then you’ll have to be willing to spend a little bit more, somewhere around $280. As far as the availability is concerned, the PSPs are expected to go on sale in Japan starting March 19th.

Colorful portable MP3 speaker

It’s been a while since the last time I challenged you into taking a wild guess with regard to weird devices that are able to mislead you. I have told you before and I’m going to say it again: appearances are deceiving and you can never know what a picture is hiding.

In the given context, I’m sure that the possibilities regarding the picture above are infinite, so it will be very nice for me to listen to all of your suggestions. Nice and amusing, because I know I can count on your imagination.

Anyway, what would you say if I told you that the big puffy fluffy balloons are, in fact, portable speakers especially designed for your MP3 players? You would probably laugh at me, because you’re all accustomed to the ugly, boring devices that are available on the market these days. But you can trust me on this one!

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

I’m not kidding you! The Yuen’To Music Ball, also known under the name of the Music Balloon, is a rechargeable auxiliary mono speaker that is compatible to all sorts of portable audio player that you might own. Be honest, the fact that you have a colorful alternative at your disposal to those speakers that you must hate, is quite invigorating.

The colorful portable MP3 speaker comes with a power of 7 watts and provides the user with approximately 2 hours of playback on every charge. As far as the charging is concerned, you can do this via the USB port that you must have on your computer. The Music Balloon is available in a wide variety of colors, such as pink, yellow, blue, red and the traditional black.

A great disadvantage of the speaker is the price, which is higher than you could have imagined: $76.16. A little bit expensive for a low-powered speaker, isn’t it?
