Linde Werdelin, the famous maker of high-end sport watches presented “the world’s first luxury dive computer†named simply “Sea Instrumentâ€.
Well, I don’t think this simple name can illustrate exactly what this gadget is, so let’s describe it a little! It’s made of solid 18k gold with a built-in processor, a 2.4 GHz wireless sensor and 128 memory, all encased in lightweight aluminum.

It’s resistance at 1000 feet under water makes it a good piece of technology that buyers can rely on. The 55 mm LCD is made of sapphire crystal allowing divers to see all the data with clearness and to be protected from scratches, sapphire crystal glass being second in hardness after diamond.
With this gadget you can dive, adventure in the darkest corners of the water and monitor your voyages without problems. A cool thing is that the transferring data to your PC is made wirelessly.
A must-have underwater equipment every diver than can afford should have.
The releasing of the Sea Instrument is expected later this year, in October.

Sony has launched a new range of versatile DVD recorders with a very large file storage capacity and some new features for this industry.
The HX/HXD range comes with a 120GB to 500GB hard drive, meaning space for about 1420 hours of TV program recording for the 500GB version.

An interesting feature for the HXD series is that it has a built-in analogue TV tuner for standard channels and a DVB-T tuner for digital broadcast.
These new products come with 2 news for 2008. First of all, the X-Pict Story feature allows you to create slideshows from your personal images stored, using only your remote control. More than that, when you’re watching the slideshow there is the possibility to listen to musical soundtrack also from your stored melodies.
The second new feature is that through USB you can transfer entire stored data from your Handycam’s hard disk (only those made by Sony) to the DVD recorder with direct digital dubbing, without losing the quality of your videos.
Featuring 1080p upscaling, this new range can be connected to your Sony Bravia TV through HDMI. Using Bravia Sync you can control the DVD recorder and other Sony devices through your TV remote. One for all, indeed a good usability of the remote!
It seems an interesting new range of products from Sony, with new and interesting features specially made to satisfy their clients’ needs and with only 0.75 watt power consumption, which makes them some good products to have in your homes.

You have some pretty efficient ways of storing data nowadays. HDDs and SSDs on one hand and Flash memory sticks and cards along with CDs/ DVDs and Blu-rays on the other. Let’s not forget about the magnetic tape and the ancient floppies… and maybe ZIP drives. A reasonable variety and some decent prices, I’d say. Am I forgetting something? Oh, the holographic storage devices. Well, you wouldn’t actually buy something like this for now, but let’s take a look at the latest developments in this field.

<-120x240 Vertical Banner - left->InPhase‘s 3D Holographic storage device uses holograms and two coherent laser beams - a reference beam and an illumination beam - to create an interference pattern that is recorded on photosensitive media. When a special “reading†laser inside that black box is concentrated on the recorded interference pattern, the original image is reconstructed through 3D means.
Maybe some of you are experts in holograms and sci-fi tech, so please feel free to skip the following stuff if you already have a degree in holography. OK, so these holograms are pretty impressive; some might even say that the Universe could be based on this principle, but I digress. Just imagine that only a small fragment of a hologram can reconstruct the entire data image. So if you happened to store a 3D image, the fragment will not let you move as far to make a full revolution around it. In the case of 2D images, however, it means a scratch isn't fatal.
The holographic R/W device from InPhase uses a 5.25″ film-based clear disk in a cartridge as recordable media. This cartridge has an estimated lifespan of about 50 years and you can use it millions of times over and over again during this time frame. Plus you get to store 300 GB (for now, at least).
Go ahead and pay $18,000 to own one of these, or you can wait for about ten years and buy it for $50 or even less.
