Everyone’s Computer

Everyone's Computer

Everyone’s Computer is a concept gathering all the needs of a family’s members, describing how the future PCs will look like and function.

Everyone’s Computer
Who is not dreaming about having the perfect PC complete with 3D interface and easily controlled by gestures like your own hands would be in the virtual world touching and moving folders and files, or controlling the applications?

Everyone’s Computer

At a touch of your finger, the media player would start playing your favorite movie or the music playlist, while with both of your hands you could search through the picture database to find those nice moments from the last year’s trip to the sea side.

This could be possible if we’d take into consideration the following factors: natural movement, flexible input interface, and multi-actions.
With the third dimension introduced into the user’s interface, you get more information displayed and you could navigate through it using your own hands, revealing the objects in the back by simply waving your hand.

Everyone’s Computer

You would see a virtual handprint inside the computer with the shape and position of your hand in the reality, this capability being accomplished by using two parallel cameras in charge with capturing your hands’ movements simultaneously.
The depth of the hands is established by the fusion of two parallel images.

Everyone’s Computer

One of the main task of Everyone’s Computer is to completely eliminate the mouse and keyboard giving the user freedom to express feelings using gestures.
This new technology allows multiple users to control the PC from anywhere simultaneously, becoming the next generation multi-personal platform with all electronics in your home unified as one central processing structure with controls to appliances achieved via hand commands in the range of the computer’s camera hub.

Everyone’s Computer

This is how the personal computer with touch-sensitivity is evolving to multi-personal computing with hand detection and colors differentiating each user’s hands.

The ergonomical aspect here is that such a computer removes the problems created today to the lumbar muscle and hands caused by the position in which we work at our desktops or laptops.
In the near future you will be able to be in any position you feel comfortable, with your friends around you, controlling the computer with hands from the distance.

Everyone’s Computer

We could talk about the uses of this concept for hours and we wouldn’t finish discussing it because it is designed to be easy to use, easy to learn and fits in homes, public places, offices, schools and even to people that don’t have a strong technology knowledge.
But I can give you an example.
You could turn on/off the lights in your house, download movies, switch to some TV channel by pointing your finger to it, and without using a remote, and during this time, one of your room mates could be learning how to cook Chinese recipes in the kitchen by replaying the video lessons until he/she learns it and food is ready.

Everyone’s Computer

Everyone’s Computer is designed to add a modern air to your home, to be plugged into standard electricity sockets, and its colors are customizable.
It has a translucent silicon ring at the bottom and is emitting blue light when powered, with vertical and horizontal stripes on the hubs for clear distinction between them.

DNA

DNA

There is a personal computer concept designed in such a way to be so customizable that each model can be unique, matching users’ different personalities and needs, cultures or passions, that it can be associated with the image of the human DNA.
DNA
That’s why it is called the DNA PC, and in addition, the modular concept has also the shape, color and style customizable, but the main components are the projector, the keyboard, the power supply, while the core module connects to all the cube’s faces allowing the user to place it in any position, depending on the needs.

DNA

After drawing or sticking on the cubes’ surface, the user can purchase other modules separately, like peripherals and external memory.
Besides giving you the chance to get creative, DNA supports wireless connectivity so it can be used anywhere together with the modules you need for your work or for fun, because it is lightweight, small, each cube measuring 60 x 60 x 60 mm, and it is a great companion in any situation: when you are at work, at school or outside in the park.

DNA

You can see that the digital keyboard is foldable, with batteries that charge during the connectivity with the core, while the 40 x 30 x 15 mm-projector, that can reach 2D and 3D angles, is integrated into its module with chip, three lasers, and oriented lens, to be able to project in different angles.

If you would want to use the keyboard, you could easily fold it out and type on the digital keys, with the trackpad at your disposal on one of the faces.
To close the keyboard parts you have to use the silicon bands.

DNA

The battery module has a 50 x 50 mm photovoltaic panel, and the power supply module is made of the same foldable material as the keyboard, with photovoltaic panel to transform the light into energy, which increases its charging flexibility.
As an option you could use the charging cable connected to one if these faces, as the other ones feature normal plugs.

DNA

Basic hardware components are situated into the core cube, and here we encounter the low-power processor which leads to low heat and noise levels, the graphic card, a cooling system, the flash drive and the RAM memory.
The exterior materials used are recyclable. One of the options is Bioplastic, a heat resistant material like polypropylene, and it is known to use less than 30% production energy.

Cuppa

Cuppa

RFID comes from Radio-Frequency Identification method which uses RFID small devices called tags integrated into objects, animals or persons to become easier to identify from several meters away via radio waves.
These tags consist of an integrated circuit which stores and processes the data and n antenna that acts as a receiver/transmitter for the signal.
Cuppa
There is also the chipless RFID version that is more advanced and is used for identification purposes with tags, but that doesn’t need an integrated circuit.
In this case, the tags are printed directly onto assets and the costs are lower compared with the first type.
People use this RFID technology in the enterprise supply chain management for efficient inventory tracking.

The same technology based on radio waves is adopted by Cuppa, a smart PC concept designed to connect the user in his home to the other devices around, like for example a TV.
It integrates a short range and a long range RFID adapter which allows it to extend the TV display into Cuppa’s screen so the user can scan the information while multi tasking.

Cuppa

The PC concept is optimized for socializing and is a good replacement for your mobile phone and other portable devices with small screens and keyboards, or your desktop PC which can’t be moved around your house.

Focused only on portability and social networking concepts, the designer wanted to free its computer from operating systems or complicated hardware that require updates and a good knowledge base for learning how to use them, and so he kept the basic elements of a device meant to link the person in front of it to the rest of the social communities’ members: an ergonomic keyboard with function keys showing names to be easier to use, with the possibility to contract into the Cuppa’s body for better portability, and a high-definition display capable to interface with multiple monitors.

The entire computer would measure 266 mm wide, 111 mm deep with 20 mm thickness, while the home server can be built into the existing Windows Home servers.
All the information would be stored on the Windows Live service and this would allow for it to be organized easier, while the user could stay in touch with friends, upload pictures and post to Life Blogs.

As you can see in the pictures, in the left of the keyboard, Cuppa has he RFID reader, and on the right it integrates an OLED display which shows friends updates and gives access to Instant Messenger.

Cuppa

On the scheme you can see the general view of the network: first is the Cuppa computer, then come the sensors that connect to the home server, and this makes the link to the online social space.
A Cuppa sensor can be in the form of a sticker, hidden on any device, from which some would need an extra connector for streaming data.

If you would have a Cuppa, you could for example get fliers with embedded Cuppa Chips that can be read by the computer to show you the information on it on the TV in the living room.
Sometimes you could take pictures in your trips and capture some great funny moments, and when you get back home you place the digital camera onto the Cuppa sensor to automatically upload the data on it, from the Wi-Fi SD card.

Another capability is to detect automatically when another Cuppa is around, and you would know it by seeing a very limited striped interface in the right of this computer.

Cuppa

If we take a look at the manufacturing and use aspects, we can distinguish several facts that suggest environmentally awareness.
For example, storing the information in external data houses would make only the right resources to be utilized, as there are places with renewable energy, while the other devices can be switched On/Off as Cuppa can be set to turn them to hibernate if the user leaves room.

It requires little thermal cooling because it doesn’t use much processing, and it integrates a Solid State Drive storage option to eliminate noise.

Well, this is it! Check back later or "Get email delivery" (from the side bar) to read about the next PC design concept that will be even more spectacular, but don’t forget to leave us a line with your impression about Cuppa concept.

Conceito

Conceito

Conceito is one of my favorite PC concepts from this year’s NextGen PC Design Competition. Why? Because it shows how the digital video paint brush from one of my previous articles can be transformed In something more complex, with an extraordinary design, a PC that allows you to do magic things like drawing with the real image of the nature’s components.

Conceito

Conceito

For example, the digital video paint brush looks like a normal brush but it integrates a video camera, touch sensors and LEDs, with which it captures the image you choose to draw it on a large display.
Conceito is something more sophisticated, consisting of a 40 X 70 cm flexible LCD screen with translucent capability, a digital pen with color sensing mechanism, and a digital color palette from which you can choose the color for your pen.

Conceito

Imagine you are in your garden and you are amazed by the beauty of the nature around you in a beautiful spring morning.
You want to paint what you see but maybe you are not an artist, so you get your Conceito PC and set its display on the translucent mode.
Now you can see on it everything that is behind and you begin to paint it.
Your friend is a true artist, knows how to paint and doesn’t need its Conceito display to be transparent, and so he will use the slim digital pen to select colors from leafs and flowers to draw something natural.

Conceito

Of course, it has nothing in common with the real painting art, but it is very simulative for drawing inspiration, and a great tool for comic and graphic artists.

Other things you could use Conceito for include measuring the objects’ dimensions with the digital pen, draw portraits on the screen and then upload your creations to the CPU after plugging the display for auto-synchronization.

Conceito

About the ecological aspect I can tell you that this concept’s flexible display doesn’t require a power source and using this approach saves many natural resources such as wood for paper.
