INFO Live

INFO Live

INFO Live is not a complex PC concept but a very simple one, compared to the other NextGen PC Design Competition participants, and it adopts the easy wearable design idea, a bracelet.
Created as a personal portable storage device easy to browse, INFO Live can perform various tasks combining a mobile handset with personal computer functionality.

INFO Live

You could use it for Internet connectivity, data transfer with other wireless-enabled devices, store lots of information, receive the latest news, e-mails, messages, documents in real-time, watch videos, pictures , listen to the music and write documents while on the go.
It is like a watch so it sports a small display, meaning you’d probably have to connect it to a larger screen or use a projector while working.

INFO Live

The users would access INFO Live via a super easy to use and intuitive interface to manage their data as they like, where they like, using natural gestures such as flipping and finger kicking.

INFO Live

Measuring 55 x 20 x 180 mm, the watch computer would be used mainly by business people that need to travel frequently, and that’s why it should be conceived to be compact, smart, colored in classic black, with the ability to give you a tactile feel while touching it.

Azimuth Mr. Roboto Watch

The 1950’s revealed some disturbing robot designs – the harbingers of the techno era that was soon to follow. Sure, those were pretty silly-looking robots when you compare them to modern day androids and cyborgs, but they made history nonetheless. Azimuth, renowned for its watch designs, gives you a blend between a 1950s robot and an elegant watch, allowing you to get a taste of that cool vintage flavor of “half of the century” trends.

This Vintage Tin Robot Concept Watch from Azimuth’s Hallmark Creation is part of the newly released Mecha–1 BMF Collection and could end up on the wish list of every watch-lover and techy geek. Azimuth’s watch is also dubbed Mr Roboto after a vintage tin robot concept of the 1950s, while the design is inspired by the Lantern Robot of the same decade. Azimuth presents this watch as an avantgarde design, which is complemented by user-friendly functions.

The placements lend for easy reading and a radical tin robot visual appearance, as you can observe in the image above. The left ‘eye’ is the hour register, the right ‘eye’ comes with GMT indication, the nose region together with the mouth region are the seconds and retrograde minutes placements respectively. You get nNo futuristic power sources in this one, as Mr Roboto is powered solely by automatic winding movement and it features 25 jewels. The vintage watch resists down to 50 m in the water and for this you also get a robust case forged out of hardy steel blocks with a warm touch of bevelled edges at the sides.

The concept will be commercially available in September 2008 for approximately $4,800.

Memento Mori Watch

Memento Mori Watch

In London you can find a cool watches collection designed by Crispin Jones in a very unique way, being exactly the opposite of “stylish”, “luxury” and “trendy”.
They are simple, classic looking and shocking, forming one of the coolest brands on the market, Mr Jones Watches.

The Accurate wrist watch as you can see is always remembering you that you will die with its two hands and a mirrored glass so you will know who it is referring at.
Inspired by the “memento mori” Latin expression, it makes you aware of the fact that life has an end like all the other things around us and maybe this will make you appreciate it more with every second that passes.

Memento Mori Watch

But let’s take a look at the specifications!
The Accurate has a stainless steel case, black leather strap with white stitching, measures 35 mm in diameter and uses a single jewel quartz mechanism.
It is also waterproof to resist at up to 5 ATM under water.
Coming with a 12 months guarantee, the death watch costs $140 plus shipping.

Memento Mori Watch

"Today everyone has a mobile phone to do the really functional timekeeping, this means that the wristwatch is free to do something a bit different. The watches I design reflect and comment on society, both on the role that time plays in all our lives and also on the social impact of technology. Of course because I would like people to wear these watches, I also work very hard to make them beautiful objects in their own right." Crispin Jones

ChaCha Still in Top

ChaCha Still in Top

The “Place For Lonely Searchers” formed by “90% Pranksters” because it this a “Bad Idea Poorly Executed” that “Raises $10 Million” and this besides spreading “SMS Spam” (TechCrunch) is as I said back in November, a successful startup that yesterday announced to get rid of the search input box and let only their guides to answer your questions.

In addition, this change will happen to search on your mobile phone too.
You already can get access to ChaCha via a cell phone but now you don’t have the search box alternative, but directly a Guide specialized in finding you the right answer for your query in a shorter time.
To find out more about the ChaCha mobile search and how to use it check this short article.

Even if TechCrunch was trying hard to damage its image over the Internet, ChaCha has managed to stay in the top and continues to improve their service adding new search features on a regular basis.
This quality was recently recognized at the Search Engine Strategies conference in Manhattan, where ChaCha received My Search is Better than Your Search prize, and it was also selected as the No. 1 Alternative Search Engine by Charles Knight.

Sungho Lee Interview

Sungho Lee InterviewSungho Lee is the designer that conceived Clef Electronic Music Note Stand, one of the finalists at the NextGen PC Design Competition.
In his resume on Coroflot.com we found out that he studied at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI and he graduated in 2007 the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design, after which he started to work as Design Intern at Reebok International.

Among his studio projects we encounter furniture, electronics, Personal Digital Document Appliance, office products, architecture and just to give you two examples, he created the Outdoor Detroit Music Theater and Desk Clock, ETIM: Based on Jasper Morrison's design philosophy.
Here you can check them.

Sungho draws his ideas using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Alias, Rhino, Imagestudio, Handsketching and Modelmaking.
He found some free time to give us a special interview about his work and the inspiration that lead his thoughts to the creation of such an interesting and unique PC design: Clef.

Techpin: Sungho, we would like you to tell our readers how your passion for design started and why you chose technology.

SUNGHO LEE: I have been very much into electronics, especially handheld devices. This area always inspires me to keep learning and try something new. And, I thought this year the Microsoft competition could be a good opportunity for me to push forward my ideas with new technology.

Techpin: So you started to focus on the innovation aspects of technology and you wanted to create something new based on your own ideas. But why didn’t you choose I don’t know..... to combine a portable computer and a piano, instead of an electronic music note stand? Do you know much about these music tools or did you study music?

SUNGHO LEE: I used to go to classical music concerts very often. Whenever I saw players turn pages, I thought there’s got to be something to let them just play music. Because they looked .. very bothered. Besides, a music note stand essentially has many great aspects to develop when it is conceived as electronics. So, I thought ‘”yes! This is it’” It was a perfect subject for this competition seeing as this year’s design theme was to help people to do what they feel passionate about.

Techpin: What music genres do you enjoy listening?

SUNGHO LEE: I have a very wide taste for music. From rock to classical.

Techpin: Can you tell us what the key elements of Clef are, what would it bring new on the market and who will benefit from its features if someone will choose to invest in its production?

SUNGHO LEE: As I said on my project description, Clef works as a music player and a laptop as well as a music note stand. The top priority of this project was combining several components such as a base, a foot pedal and a display into a portable computer and making it compact at a same time. Otherwise, it would have been just another digital transform. It was very challenging! And aesthetically I wanted to deliver a simple and modern look.
As my main target demographic, I thought of instrument players. By making this product portable, I intended to satisfy their various needs. And, considering it is a portable device, it could potentially attract a wider group of people who just love and enjoy music.

Sungho Lee Interview

Techpin: We’d also want to know what your favorite PC concept from the NextGen PC Design Competition is, besides Clef of course.

SUNGHO LEE: Well, I don’t know. There are many good ideas. And, I think they are all very talented. It is definitely not easy to come up with something extraordinary out of the ordinary. The challenge needs very keen observation. They all did a great job!

Techpin: Well thank you very much for your time, Sungho! Will you announce Techpin as soon as you’ll come up with your next project, because our readers are anxious to find out about the coolest gadgets and technology innovations?

SUNGHO LEE: Yes of course. Getting feedback from others is always very important to me as well. And it was a pleasure talking with you. Thank you.
