Mind Controlled Games

NeuroSky is working with several companies on the Project Millennia, which will be demonstrated this year at the Game Developers Conference 2008, but now the developer of the bio-sensor and signal processing technology for the customer electronics market has announced the launching of the new brainwave-controlled headset called MindSet, which reads and interprets your mental states and sends this information to different platforms using the wireless connectivity.

Based on the ThinkGear-EM technology, the headset is capable of managing the brainwaves and communicating with gaming consoles, personal computers and mobile platforms like cell phones.

As Stanley Yang, CEO of NeuroSky declared, the new technology used in this type of headset uses the mental states of the player in the gaming.

New Samsung Bluetooth-Enabled MP3 Players

New Samsung Bluetooth Enabled MP3 Players

The two new MP3 players from Samsung integrate the Broadcom BCM2048 system-on-a-chip which combines Bluetooth with FM radio chip to deliver radio broadcasts and stream the digital music wirelessly to Bluetooth-enabled headphones and speakers.
Samsung YP-P2 and YP-T10 MP3 players were announced at Mobile World Congress 2008 and the first model mentioned was also recognized as a CES 2008 Innovation Award Honoree.

New Samsung Bluetooth Enabled MP3 Players

Why are these so special? Well, because they feature the innovative multi-user audio which allows two users of the YP-T10 or three users of the YP-P2 to listen to the same music or watch the same video stream on multiple wireless headsets simultaneously.
This works based on the Bluetooth A2DP capability and on the Bluetooth software stack and silicon from Broadcom.

Bluetooth enables other capabilities too, such as permitting the MP3 players to interact with the mobile phone models that support this connectivity type.
For example, if you connect the MP3 player with your cell phone, the devices will pause automatically when you receive a call allowing you to answer and talk.

The two new models will be available in August. Samsung YP-P2 is a video player with a wide display, equipped with music player, picture viewer, voice recording, FM radio, text, and portable file storage features.
Although it sports a 3-inch screen with a 16:9 ratio, 30 fps video playback and full touch sensitive graphic user interface, it is just 0.4-inch thick.

NeuroSky to Present Project Millennia

NeuroSky to Present Project Millennia

At the Game Developers Conference 2008 this year, NeuroSky, the company that developed the bio-sensor and signal processing technology, will demonstrate its new Project Millennia prototype, a multi-biosensor headset designed and created for the gaming industry.

NeuroSky is not alone in this advanced project, but it collaborates with Ascend Visual Systems, Eye-Com Corporation and Memsic.

Ascend Visual Systems is a company from California focused on video and audio solutions for the electronic products market.
It has developed the Essential Stereo audio IC family providing a clear natural sound with great effect cancelation for its headsets.
Eye-Com from Nevada is known for its Eye-Com Biosensor, Communicator and Controller, an eye frame mounted eye tracker which helps in driver and pilot safety and is capable of connecting the users to simulators, robotics, remotely controlled devices, games and toys. Its applicability is in the military, medicine and future costumer advanced applications.

Memsic is specialized in advanced semiconductor sensor and system solutions and its work is based on integrated micro electromechanical systems, also called MEMS.

The three partners will support the integration of brainwave translations, 2D accelerometer motion, eye-tracking and 3D surround sound, all these into a single headset.
According to their announcement, the new technology will be used in avatar’s movement control.
Project Millennia will build a new dimension in the interaction between the human and the machine, and the Essential Stereo technology will add the superior surround sound with natural effects but while reducing the ear fatigue for gamers.

“Eye-Com Corporation envisions that the jointly developed Project Millennia by Eye-Com and NeuroSky will greatly change the way end-users interact with the simulated and real worlds. The integration of optical and neural sensory data has the opportunity to open doors that we have never considered,” declared Eye-Com CEO Dr. William Torch. “Think about how interactive games will change by giving the end user another tool to play the game – with and without manual dexterity! Think about how the games themselves will change 2008 and the future!”
