The Samsung F700 beats the iPhone

The Samsung F700 beats the iPhone

Samsung F700The imitation in design of the phone manufacturers is not a totally unusual practice these days, and for some people it’s easy to confuse brands – that’s what the competitive brands rely on in order to sell their products. This isn’t the case though with the Samsung F700 – yes, it does copy the design a bit, but it does give a lot more under the sleek glossy big touch-screen (256K colors, Size 240 x 440 pixels).

You can watch videos and listen to music with this phone from Samsung – it runs on a flash-based user interface and sports a high-speed mobile broadband connection (HSPDA) that allows you to browse the Internet from almost any place where there is decent network signal (at speeds that go up to 3.6Mbps) – something that is missing from the iPhone.

Samsung F700 - Newtork StatusYou don’t have to worry about the lack of a multi-tap interface as there is a slide-out QWERTY keypad, and you also get a 5 megapixel camera instead of the 2 megapixel one from the iPhone. If you wish to store a lot of music and video on the phone you also have the expandable microSD slot where more memory can be added easily. It is 16mm thick, and so 5 mm thicker than the iPhone, but the extra-features and the keyboard may be reason enough to accept it. The secondary video-call camera is meant to facilitate the visual signal for an audio-video conference. You can also view documents, and schedule various events with the embedded organizer. As connectivity – the phone features Bluetooth, EDGE and USB and as the messaging capabilities – there are the simple text, multimedia message and the instant messaging system.

A very interesting feature of Samsung F700 (sounds like a name of one of those military planes - the F series) is the VibeTonz technology which allows the user to actually feel the buttons with a responsive vibration. It has been announced that the phone will be available in Europe in November.

Magic Burning Studio 10.4.2 Review

Magic Burning Studio 10.4.2 Review

Magic Burning Studio IconAmong the many-in-one utilities that provide CD/DVD burning services, there is the Magic Burning Studio – with a very sleek, intuitive and simple interface. We know how important is to save the work on removable drives in order to restore it in case of an accidental deletion of the information, but also the professional solutions have higher costs, and there’s where this suite of burning tools comes in handy as it is price effective as well.

main interface make data CD/DVD audio/MP3 CD interface

The first thing that you may notice when you open the program is that it has a “home module containing shortcuts to all the applications that are bundled as modules. You can create data CDs and also data DVDs, audio and MP3 CDs. The application features even a video processing module that gives you the ability to burn a DVD from a DVD folder, make video CDs or Super Video CDs.

data CD burning interface data DVD burning interface VideoCD

There are also some additional utilities for handling CDs and DVDs – you can burn a CD/DVD from an ISO or CUE/BIN image file and you can also erase the CD/DVD before burning. What I noticed is that there is nothing stopping you to create an MP3 DVD as well, even if you don’t have a special module for that: jus use the DVD Data burning option and you can simply add MP3s instead of other type of data to be written on the disc. The burning speed can be set automatically – and a very large number of CD/DVD burners are supported and multisession discs are created so that you can add more files later on.

Applicability: Obviously, if you need a speedy tool to help you in saving your precious data on CD/DVDs, you can’t go wrong with Magic Video Burning Studio. With the added utilities you can also enhance the productivity in your work.

Pro(s): This piece of software has a very simple and very easy to use interface that would be to the liking of the people who don’t have any high computer skills – and it also has a good functionality. When compared to other solutions, the price of this one is very attractive for what it has to offer, and it does not only support Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, and XP – it works really well under Vista as well.

Con(s): The only thing I could suggest is the slight improvement of the Home-Base interface, and some extended options in the writing modules.

Universal Flash Storage Standard in Development Phase

Universal Flash Storage Standard in Development Phase

A new flash memory standard is prepared to be used in mobile phones and digital cameras, developed by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (formerly Joint Electron Device Engineering Council).
Universal Flash Storage Standard in Development Phase
The standard is called Universal Flash Storage and the project is sustained by the top mobile phone companies.
Among the benefits of this innovation we have to mention the driving of the data transfer speeds and memory storage capacity up to embedded memory and memory cards. The result will be more songs, videos and pictures on user’s phones.
The Universal Flash Storage standard will shorten the time needed to access information on mobile devices.

Companies like Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, STMicroelectronics, Micron Technology, Spansion and Texas Instruments are all supporting the standard expecting its finalization until 2009.

MagicISO 5.4 Review

MagicISO 5.4 Review

MagicISO IconBacking up your favorite CDs and DVDs has become a pretty common practice these days, since these media are not scratch-proof (no matter what it says on their label). One of the oldest and already famous tools is MagicISO – this program has been on the CD/DVD tools scene since 2000 and it has reached the 5.4 version and it has full support for Windows Vista as well.

main interface the tools settings

virtual CD moduleThe look of the program hasn’t changed much, but the main idea here is that it is integrated with the Windows Vista shell GUI – and so it will be just as good as any software that makes use of the simple and usual Windows default interface. From the beginning, MagicISO has offered superior quality in creating virtual CD images. First it offered the possibility to create CD images and later on, DVD images as well.

The utility can extract, edit, create and burn ISO files. For newbies, an ISO file is a virtual copy of the CD/DVD you just created a copy of. Although the program offers the standard ISO as a format under which the images can be recorded, you can also try the BIN, NRG (Nero Image File), and the UIF (universal image format).

<-234x60 Half Banner - left->One of the advantages of the UIF type is that you can also add a password in MagicISO to the image file you create so that it will be accessible only to you. Another pretty neat feature is that the application can create a DVD ISO file of up to 10GB in size – and so you can come up with images ready to be written on DVD-Dual layer discs. You can also export boot images from bootable CD/DVD images like back-ups of original operating systems discs – MagicISO lets you know if you handling a bootable or non-bootable image file.

Applicability: You can create a virtual drive and load onto it an image of a CD/DVD of an original game and play it without the need to insert the disc into the optical drive every single time you want to start playing. You can create back-ups of the CD/DVDs you already have by creating images and then burning them onto CD/DVD blank discs.

Pro(S): It has a very intuitive interface, it offers even compression of the image files created and it does offer compatibility to a wide range of image formats. The 5.4 build has reached quite a mature level and does stand out of its class of CD/DVD tools with a wide range of options and the possibilities it offers.

Con(s): The price could be adjusted a little bit more, but other than that, I cannot see any problem that would hinder the user while making virtual CD/DVD images.
